Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead: Actor Dies At 46 In New York Apartment.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday (Feb. 2).

The 46-year-old actor's cause of death has yet to be determined but the New York Police Department is investigating and a law-enforcement official confirmed to WSJ that the academy award-winning actor was found dead in his West Village home.

The New York Post reports that Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose by a friend at 11:30 a.m.

It was reported in May 2013 that Hoffman underwent drug detox treatment for substances including heroin.

"It was all that [drugs and alcohol], yeah, it was anything I could get my hands on ... I liked it all," Hoffman told CBS' "60 Minutes" in a 2006 interview. "I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old. You get panicked ... and I got panicked for my life. It really was just that."

The acclaimed actor is best known for his outstanding performances in films like "The Master," "Doubt," "Charlie Wilson's War" and "Capote" -- for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2005.

The Huffington Post has reached out to Hoffman's rep for comment.

What a waste! What is it about drugs in the entertainment industry? These are people who earn more money than 99% of the people and are loved wherever they go...

And let's face it, when it happens we find out these guys are doing a lot more than drinking a bit more than they should or smoking some pot now and then.

But I won't judge anyone. I take percocets for pain (legally, due to severe muscle issues - I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy) and have - THANK GOD - never had the urge to take one when I was not in pain. Maybe that is God smiling upon me, because many others have been prescribed these sorts of things and ended up as addicts.

I can't say that he was one of my favorites or anything, but he WAS a very talented actor. Whatever demons he was wrestling with, I hope he is in a better place.

It's so sad :( but drugs and the entertainment industry come hand in hand from my experience. The music industry is shocking for it, really upsetting. I'm glad I don't work in it anymore. I've seen so many lives ruined

It's truly bad about what happened to him.. hope he can at least now find some peace that's one of those addictions that is hard to walk away from.:rip:

Wow...so young, what a messed up choice - great actor too. UGh.

All comes down to choices - you can be a great actor, sportstar, philanthropist, businessman, whatever...mess around with too much drugs, you get destroyed.

Our society is insane.

People are talking like this guy was one of the best ever and like he was some kind of hero.

Not a hero, a total druggie who wasted his life by doing stupid things like this.

All the supermarket bs books showing him on the cover like he was some kind of fantastic super star when he was mediocre at best.

We need to send a message to our kids, you can be talented at something but you will pay for it if you do stupid things like this one did.

We should not put those who die from drug over doses like this on any pedestal.

I agree with sandy, just a druggie. I feel bad for his family they do not deserve to suffer, his acting was ok but he was not that great, to be honest he has a weird character look and that is what mainly what made is roles good, not necessarily great acting....... actors or famous people are just entertainers, it is just a job, they are not more important or special, in fact they are less important socially than eg. a charity worker or someone that saves lives like a surgeon or ordinary people that work hard and produce results for society....living/working in London I have seen/met loads of them, never been star-struck, if their driver needs to move out of my parking spot, I will make them....

In my opinion we shouldn't judge others for their way of living, I believe that nobody is perfect so there's nothing negative to say about anyone.

No one is judging anyone. Issue is many kids look up to these types of people and when they do it is sad.

It is just as bad making him out like he was amazing and a hero when he in fact was not.

Very few actors are considered 'heroes'...seriously...
