Default Wanted to create something, but there's a patent...

Without getting into much detail or giving away what I want to make, I had a couple good ideas for a "business/product" I wanted to make. However, I came across on Google that the method of making what I want to do is patented!? WTF. Sorry I don't want to say what, but if you knew specifically what it was, you might be a little surprised.

Anyway, main question here: if I'm in Canada and the patent is in the US, am I ok?

I'm currently looking at the company's website and store, and overall it's done pretty poorly, and actually looks a lot different than I'd want mine to be. Also, their whole presentation is pretty corny. I can bet if I showed my [potential] buyers their stuff right now, they wouldn't think for a second about buying it.

You must determine if it is a universal patent

Hmmmmmm. Do universal patents exist? Nothing really comes up when I enter that into Google. I also just read this - There is no such thing as an international patent

Anyway, on the patent page, there's a category "CLASSIFICATIONS" which has US, International, Cooperation, European classifications.

I'm also reading that it's encouraged and not viewed upon as "cheap" or something, for people to slightly alter things about the product to avoid any trouble

You might want to consult a Law Firm that deals with these type of issues....

It is VERY Simple,,,Go to the SOURCE,,,in this case the Canadian Patent office, give them the US Patent information and a description if needed, and ask if that product is also protected in Canada,,,NO Speculation,,,a STRAIGHT Answer from the ONLY Proper source,,If you hire a Lawyer, that is EXATLY what they will do,,,

slapped put it correctly - explore the Canadian patent aspect properly...could be that the patent is only in US but many companies work quickly to spread their patents.
