Big jump at once though.

I dont remember the last time they did a price increase but it was a while ago. But if adjusted for inflation, its about inline with inflation and any possible increase in increase for getting new contents (shows, movies).

Re: Amazon Prime Price increase to $99

As much as I enjoy complaining about Amazon, I cannot complain about Amazon Prime. I order a ton of stuff from them and it saves me money. The movies and Kindle e-book borrowing privileges are a nice bonus. As they pointed out, the price has been the same for several years with no increases. It is hard to argue against the price increase here.

Or, we could just force all of the UPS drivers and Amazon employees to take a 20% pay cut....

Re: Amazon Prime Price increase to $99

Well maybe if you use it for dropshipping etc. you could definitely save some money.
And something tells me one of the reasons they did this is because people use it for dropshipping, they probably don't care, but increased the price anyway as people will keep using it. I believe Amazon US alone has over 10 million Prime Members, 10 million x 20 = $200 MILLION extra each year. Some members will cancel, but I am sure popularity will keep increasing, and the 200 million gives Amazon some extra space to cover costs if members use it for drop shipping purposes. in the end, Amazon makes money from people who dropship, so I think they don't really care.. I could be wrong though, never used it myself.

While we are on the subject...

Has anyone ever been linked with amazon prime thru a tivo?

If you stay logged in to amazon prime in tivo will it relay ip address to amazon?

We don't have to go shopping outside anymore thanks to Amazon! :)

Seriously... the price increase is okay.

We've had it here for a couple of years now. But I was a member LONG before they added the videos. At first, they were like a welfare version of Netflix. And Netflix STILL has a bigger selection of movies, but Amazon has expanded their offering nicely. I no longer think of them as "low rent". I wouldn't give up Netflix, but having the Prime movies available is nice, especially since Amazon makes many of them available in HD. The bigger your TV screen, the more the quality matters. Something that looks great on a 17" laptop screen can look just horrible on a 73" television.

Get a laptop that has a 18 inch screen that weighs 12 pounds plus 2 pound charger.

Really not a bad increase at all if you use it a lot.
I personally do not so it makes no sense to get it.

It is nice to know that they met somewhere in the middle since it was originally going to be around $149 I believe?

I wish they would have grandfathered in existing Prime Members. Considering they have not raised the price since 2005. Hard to complain. Getting USPS hikes every year now. For me that is multiples of times getting kicked compared to this one hike in nearly 10 years.

I can understand why they didn't , its estimated that they have tens of millions of subscribers for prime membership. That would be a pretty huge loss to take year after year for many years to come, as costs keep increasing. Overall the added costs seems pretty fair to me for such a great service.

Honestly, I do as well. Was just hoping they might throw a bone to the long term members.
