Thinking On Couple New Forums

One for Newbies... I'm thinking of calling it the 'Newbies Corner'. It'll be made for all the newbie questions... what do you guys think?

And maybe a Amazon Forum and CraigsList.Org Forum...

What do you think?

philly387 09-25-2008 12:30 PM

I think Craigslist would be a good forum because that seems to be becoming more and more popular. I think you have said before that Amazon is the same as ebay pretty much so I don't think that would be much of a help.

Okay I'll Play 09-25-2008 01:08 PM

I'm probably being negative, but I don't think adding a newbie forum will help much. What experienced member would actually go there? In the best case scenario it would be a bunch of clueless newbs talking to each other. I'm sure the newbs would just end posting their repetitive questions in the main forum, anyway.

It is really sad that most people have a complete inability to use the search function or use Google to see if the answer is already here. Most, from what I can tell, want someone to personally walk them through everything without paying for it.

If they can't be bothered to read through old threads, then I doubt they would read through the list of forums and post in the correct one.

aspkin 09-25-2008 01:12 PM

Lol, I just pictured a newbie first finding this forum... they see the biggest and brightest forum say 'Newbies Come Here'... with a rainbow in the background people holding hands saying this way buddy, come on... and then when they're tired of that forum they enter the big boys play ground... somewhat of a Care Bears theme. :)

Let's see what GreenBean thinks, she's been wanting something done about newbie posting for awhile. :)

Quasi_Mojo 09-25-2008 01:53 PM

Is there any way to send new members an automatic PM directing them to the Forum Rules section? Maybe with a warning that failure to search before creating a new thread will result in ridicule from other members? ;)

philly387 09-25-2008 01:59 PM

Haha...I agree with Quasi "Maybe with a warning that failure to search before creating a new thread will result in ridicule from other members?" - Quasi_Mojo

aspkin 09-25-2008 02:12 PM

Hmm, that can be done, but is it the message we want to send? I don't think so. :p

YEA You said it... LOL

Quasi_Mojo 09-25-2008 02:26 PM

aspkin, how about a public flogging with a wet noodle, then?

philly387 09-25-2008 02:44 PM

Back on the original topic...I think if you created a newbies corner they wouldn't bother reading the stealth book and just ask all the questions themselves to get back on. Maybe they should only be allowed to look at the threads unless they buy the stealth book or pay to be a member?

aspkin 09-25-2008 04:18 PM

I doubt it...

Maybe not! But what fun the message could be. Right at this moment, I have
read TWO posts by the same user of the same question.Someone else
made the comment ARGH:rolleyes:
Does my head in all this. Will think about it and discuss further.:p

aspkin 09-25-2008 07:31 PM

Right, and thus some thought need to be put on the newbies. :)

minky 09-25-2008 07:44 PM

I am a newbie, I think this is the most informative site I've found and I bought the Stealth book, worth every penny (sorry I'm English living in Florida) worth every cent. I think a newbie section would only be repeating what you are all saying already. I think wprking your way round some of the threads helps you find more information - now I just have to try and put it all into action and get back on the dreaded EBAY horse - wish me luck!

philly387 09-25-2008 08:53 PM

Good luck Minky!!! Follow the book and you will be on your way to a successful stealth ebayer!!!

Amazon forum, Craigslist forum, Ioffer forum and e-commerce forum

Sure give them a newbies forum maybe with a few stickies to point them in the right direction.

I agree I would like to see an Amazon forum, Craigslist forum, Ioffer forum and e-commerce forum.

It's would help to increase everyones holiday sales.

GreenBean 09-27-2008 11:45 PM

Better than a newbies forum, how about the poster who makes the posts on the same subject get one on one coaching? We can pick straws for their mentor and wait for the victim, oops, newbie.;)
Seriously something is required QUICKLY

aspkin 09-28-2008 12:06 AM

Well, do you think a newbie forum is a good idea then GreenBean?

What is the main issues with new users? Just that post questions that have already been answered else where?

GreenBean 09-28-2008 12:10 AM

Not 100% thinking a new forum. But a new way for the users to posts as mentioned in pm;)

BooMer 09-28-2008 09:45 AM

I support the Craiglist forum.
Members of this Aspkin forum who have the first hand experience of getting suspended from Ebay will have the best input on how to succeed in Craiglist I think.

Aspkin<~~~ A comment on the Newbie Subject. I think the requirements to be considered Newbies now should also be base on how long you been a member on the forum and not by how much you post. I see members (Not Pointing out any names) that registered on here that have joined in September and already moved up in status as a result of posting a lot. I don't post that much and I am still labeled a Newbie but have joined here longer than some other people and I don't consider myself a Newbie.

Just my thoughts.

Quasi_Mojo 09-28-2008 12:55 PM

If you don't post, you don't contribute. If you don't contribute, why should your status increase? ;)

Sure, I've only been a member of this forum since 08-03-2008 - but I contribute! I'm constantly answering questions and pointing other members to where they can find the answers. I even show some how to go about finding their own answers.

aspkin, is there any way to make sure the "Forum Rules" section stays on top of the "General Marketplace Talk" section?

Here We Go Again 09-28-2008 11:14 PM

I think the Newbie Forum is a good idea.
Then we can just point them to the same place to start.

A idea I had was a Blocked Bidder Forum with sub forum categories such as Phones, Electronics ,Mens Shoes, Ladies Shoes, Mens Clothing, Mens Clothing, Jewelry, etc.

Since you are not allowed to post negative feedback for non-paying bidders any longer no one knows who they are.
And since eBay deletes 99% of the Deadbeat Bidder style threads on Seller Central when the deadbeat is named.
This way we can add Deadbeats to our Blocked Bidder List and know what these people bid on.
A Deadbeat that bids on Mens Shoes will probably not bid on Ladies Clothing.
What other categories can anyone add to this list that you might think that members here would sell in?

And I think this forum should be placed in the Members Area to restrict access.
