Trying to get into a MBA program. I gotta take the GMAT within about the next month and a half. Score doesn't have to be too high from what I understand compared to some schools. A 450 is required. Anyways, if anyone on here has taken this recently and has any advice or info to share I would greatly appreciate it.
After looking through a fairly recent study guide and watching a few youtube videos it looks like quite the test. Almost 4 hour test. Crazy. I plan on focusing more on the Math/Quantitative area especially since I see a bit of geometry in the sample questions I haven't seen in nearly 10 years. This is going to be a true test. Thanks again for any info or insight.

Wow vogeltron - such a short time frame to work with. I have taken it in the past but not recently - never ended up applying to grad school since I went a different route but best of luck bud

Yea, it is going to be quite the challenge. The more I read this test is serious stuff. Like if you get questions right then you get harder ones, if you get ones wrong you get easier ones. Pretty crazy reading up on this stuff. If you don't finish all the questions you get penalized big time. Not trying to get in fancy school just a local one here. Will give it a go and see how I do.
But seriously a 4 hour exam. I have ran 4 marathons in slightly less time than that. Unreal.

It depends on the score you are looking to get, 450 would be pretty easy. For Ivy League you are looking at 700+.
There are lots of mock exams that you can use to exercise before the real thing.
Good Luck! |

Thanks for the response. 450 from what I understand is pretty basic. However, the more I read this is not a test you just show up for and take. You have to understand how it is scored, have to have a plan on how best to guess on answers, how to manage time, etc.
It is crazy. It is not a you get these questions fill in the bubble see how you do. It is quite different.
I got a short period of time to practice and plan for this thing. Thus I am trying to find out any strategies for taking the exam. It is crazy how this thing works from what I have read. If you have 5 possible answers being able to easily and quickly narrow it down to 50/50 even if you don't crap gives you the best opportunity to succeed.
This thing is blowing my mind to be honest. You do what you can but I can see why people trying to get into Ivy League study a year to take this darn thing.

Oh yes, it takes a lot of time and practice to master the GMAT, and it can be really frustrating at times.
Check out Link1 and Link2 (if you haven't already) where you will be able to find useful resources and people sharing their personal experience from the exam.

Just trying to get into this Night School Regular MBA program at the Local College I went to. Nothing too special to be honest. Larrry Allen the HOF lineman is the only real notable graduate from the small school. Lol, which doesn't even have a football program anymore.
Like many people in general when I graduated with my Econ & secondary degree in History a few years ago. With the Job market and everything it didn't translate into many job opportunities worth much. Been sticking with eBay which I have been doing for almost 10 years now. I was like 16 when I started this. Crazy how much things have changed and how much harder it is to get sales and make a living, etc.
None the less, I have time to go back and try to do this. Xmas season is going to be a grind. But for an MBA program this one isn't going to break the bank compared to others. The school/program is on the up an up. So if I can pass this darn test and get in looks like a stellar opportunity.

take a Kaplan crash course. I'm sure they offer something like it.
I took Kaplan for the LSATs and did okay, then took the GMATS without studying and blew them away (670 I think).
But the LSATs and GMATS are very similar, so I wouldn't suggest just walking in and taking them like I did.
Also , the questions are hard on the surface, but easy once you think about them the way you're taught to do so at a Kaplan course. it's almost like the tests are put together to make sure that the people who know how to take them pass.

Is the School only having one intake for your course?
