BBC Documentary on Counterfeiting
 

There is an interesting documentary produced by the BBC called "The ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Trade" which shows the world of counterfeiting in great detail.

The interesting part, for me anyway, is that some of the brand owners of lower-cost premium-priced items are now actually manufacturing counterfeits of their own products for profit.

Oh what irony! I'm watching "counterfeit culture" right now on amazon prime. Lol. Just as this thread just got started!

The worst part of this is the fact the drug companies are allowing phake drugs to be marketed to sell in Third World countries.

This is not new to me and it is around since the early '80.
I remember on the newspaper, back then, there was an interesting article talking about the Lacoste brand which was manufacturing expensive polo shirts and it was also putting on the market very cheap end evidently counterfeited polo shirts to cover the whole market. The shirts for the reach people n the shops and the shirts for poor people in the street markets (I had a couple of these).

That sounded kind of genious to me.

We used to buy them in bulk in Thailand & Vietnam. We had a nice market in Turkey for them ;)

So badly made, collars would come undone on the first wash.

Later the manufacturing moved to Mexico. No improvement either.

So true.

I used do their messages for them aged about 5.

Used to take 10 cents off each brother from their change.

They never noticed until our Da told them. ( he used do the same to his older brothers).

About those Lascoste shirts... Many moons ago, they were all the rage among young people (1980-1984) and I bought one. It was $40, which was a lot for a shirt back then. But the QUALITY was AMAZING! I owned that shirt for almost a decade!

The new ones? Not so much. And the one I tried a couple of years ago was bought at a major retail store, not on eBay, so I'm pretty sure it was the real deal. It LOOKED the same, but it didn't FEEL the same and it only lasted for two years.

Maybe I should have tried changing the shirt... :pound:

Company actually took its manufacturing plant off shore.

After that, its quality went badly down hill.

I even know of several merchants in the UK who truly thought they were selling 'real' Lacoste'. Wrong! They got nicely scammed.

Bur.berry has done the same sh!t...all Chinese except the high-high end stuff. Dol.ce & Gab.bana and Pra.da making tons of garbage in Vietnam as well...same place as good ol' Nike!
