My bank told me that in order for me to use my credit card to make purchases in China, I would have to go to my branch and let them know I would be travelling and advise them of the dates. Then, I would actually have to GO TO CHINA to use the card.
I asked if I could authorize the bank to enable international transactions and they said absolutely not. They told me that consumer should not be buying from firms outside the US anyway, as it amounted to running an import business without a license.
I have since moved most of my business away from that bank, but that seems to be the attitude most banks are taking these days. Whenever I order from DHgate I have to use Western Union.
My guess is that the powers that be do not want Americans buying directly from the source, since they can't mark the products up 500% if we do that. It takes revenue away from the 1%. |
