Default Product Creation / Packaging

Hey guys, so I'm contemplating bringing a product to market. Already have a supplier who can make it at a reasonable price, branding, copyrights done etc, already got my marketing strategy planned etc, already got stealth accounts lined up to sell it the only thing that I have absolutely no experience with, is getting the packaging done. I know I can easily hire a freelancer to get the package design done but who can I get to actually make the packaging, and sell me it at a nice low bulk rate. The product in general will be very small and flatish so it can fit very easily in most small packaging.

Any recommendations, anyone have personal experience with this? Mainly what I'm looking for is reliable company who can do it for a good price, and if anyone knows what I can expect to pay for it etc that would be great, thanks guys!

For the packaging I would prefer it to be in the USA

unless it would be significantly cheaper/better to go abroad

Pros and cons to both. I pay peanuts for package abroad but shipping makes it even out. Also some other issues can come up.
Looking for clam-shell and insert cards? A good very affordable option for many hard goods is commercial shrink wrap to a heavy insert card. Very affordable and great for shipping too. Not idea for competing on a retail shelf or wall in a store front.

Ah interesting, and yeah something clam-shell like this would work well:

http://www.sunpack.com/img/usb-clamshell.jpg

That is pretty much exactly what I need with a different shape of course, even though I dont plan on selling these in store fronts, its important to me that it has retail packaging so I can establish the brand and distinguish it from potential f@kes that can easily come up in the future since its not hard to make. So I want something like that image but with a little paper inserted like most products with the design, branding etc

Oh and forgot to mention another reason why I would like retail packaging is I plan to let amazon ship them through FBA, and they require a UPC on each item, so the packaging would help make that easier

If it is a not bulky item, I have my manufacturer make mine over seas, package and whatnot dirt cheap. Bulky items, I import the goods, paper and clam-shell separate and pay per piece for assembly of the packaging here.

My one and only OEM item in the states that makes me a packaged products we go with a cardboard insert card, then the "Whistle" is placed on the card and the piece is shrink wrapped. I dont pay much for that either and it looks great for what I am doing with it. This process is built into my costs and I have no idea but it can not be much other than the tool to heat shrink.

It works very well for small hard goods such as what is in the picture. Very easy to ship and looks great except when it is competing on a retail wall.

Big wads of shrink wrap, slap a label on it, customers will love it. Who needs to be professional? Haha

I'm a bit late to the gambit and noticed this post. Like others have mentioned, its best to have it done by your manufacture. Otherwise, you'll be manually packaging the items and trust me, it can take a long time. The cost you'll pay in China will be MUCH lower.

Recently, I had a custom item made and manufactured to my specifications. Make sure you have the design made, either through 99 designs or through another source. ALSO make sure you hire someone to INSPECT your merchandise before it leaves China. Saved me alot of hassle and is well worth the small dime. You have to be strict and beat them with a bat, otherwise, they are bound to take short cuts. Are you shipping through sea freight?
