The last comic convention I went to was in the 1980's. Back then, they didn't have all of the celebrities hey have today. Some people from the comic book industry, that was about it. Nowadays, there are celebrities galore. I've actually been tempted to go to one of these, but it would be expensive and nobody in my family wants to go with me. It would be weird going alone. But, maybe one day if he right actor or actress is there, maybe I can finally convince someone to go with me.
Back in the day, you went to try to get good deals on comics or fill in back issues you needed for your collection. I have not collected comics since my early 20's, but it WAS fun and I even made some money sometimes.

Go, Jeff. I thought the same thing. Didnt want to drag the kids and the hubby was sick. Went alone and had a BLAST. You get to bring your own food for the most part. and outside of the tickets, nothing is REALLY expensive.
And if youre like me who is not into comics, you wont spend much at all. I got the little ones a few figurines and most of the time the vendors are bringing stuff they want to clear out so its usually SUPER cheap and you can negotiate galore. |

Maybe it would be a good way to pick up merchandise for eBay!
I'll probably go, but I'll wait until one comes around where there is a celebrity I'd like to meet. I wouldn't mind paying for the meet and greet. I did that once years ago and got to meet Lily Tomlin. She's awesome!

I got 3 tickets last year but could NOT get a hotel within 100 miles of San Diego so I was not able to go.
I was not happy about it either.
I have gone to the small one in Chicago a few times and it is pretty cool.

Wanted to go to SDCC this year but nobody to watch the kids. The wife says next year for sure. We will see about that. Lot of cool stuff that I wanted to pick up this year, from the sneak peeks I have seen.

I just moved from San Diego so I went to Comic Con a few times. Tickets are very hard to come by and there are a ton of people. Thankfully they had a bus line that ran by my house or it's impossible to get anywhere close to downtown during CC.

I remeber one year planning a trip to San Diego to Sea World and couldn't figure out why hotel rooms were costing $400 and up a night....we eventually figured out that it was due to Comic Con....

You have to sign up on the website to get a username. 6 months or so later you'll get a passcode when they are selling the badges. The first time I got them I waited in a queue on the website that continuously refreshes. Since I bought badges the next few years it's easy because returnees get badges first. It's a crap shoot and has become even more popular so your chances are really hard right now.

Is this specific to the SAN DIEGO convention, or is it typical of ALL the conventions?

Lots and lots of big time celebrities come. People come from all over the world. I think some other comic cons do this but San Diego has been doing this for many years because it's so large. It's at the Convention center downtown but it literally takes over half of downtown. | The Following User Says Thank You to ytowngirl126 For This Useful Post: | |
