Anyone ever been to a chiropractor?

I have had sharp shooting pain in my shoulder blade and violet muscle spasms for a month now...I have also started to work out again and I believe everything is related to me sitting on my FAT ass for too long and a combination of over using my body recently.

I have changed to using my left hand for using the mouse and have noticed that has caused the sharp muscle pain in my right shoulder pain subside alot.

I also notice with lifting weights my body is not aligned and the bar is not striaght, it just seems out of wack and im afraid to add more weight. maybe its just because I am not 20 anymore and just need to loosen up.

To make this short I think all this is due to me sitting with bad posture for years and I googled chiropractors but then read alot of reviews of people coming out worst and having more damage done. It just makes sense to me I guess, shifting the back/jerking the neck just seems like it can make things worst by injuring a nerve or something...

I figured we are all at our desks alot so if anyone has experienced anything like this mind sharing your experience?

I am just thinking maybe seeing a PT or even some yoga will reverse what sitting has done?

I have not been to the dr's in almost 5 years, I tried 2 different offices Friday to make an apt and neither were picking up the phones....thats why I have not seen a dr about this yet :)

I have quite a few friends who use chiros and physiotherapists - all have had good experiences. That chiropractor-causing-more problems is kind of an urban myth. Perhaps first move would be to see a physiotherapist or ergonomy-specialized health care professional.

I seen a chiropractor for probably about six months after getting a car accident and I'm glad I did help me out tremendously just like the (MASTER) RSOT said above it's more or less a urban myth then anything!

I also get these weird back muscle spasms about once or twice a year for pretty much no reason. I go to them to fix it after being at the chiropractor's office about four hours later I feel about 50% better than I did before I went in there.

MM78 - tell me that's not you in the picture lying down. Or if it is tell me youre going to take care of that carpet on your back... that thing has got to go!
And OP - a side note - consider switching from a regular mouse to a trackball. Ive done this several years ago and never looked back. My arm and hand don't need to move anymore at all to operate the computer - only my thumb. In addition, since we all sit for hours on front of our computer screens its essential to have good posture when sitting in your chair. I myself had issues with my back so I bought a special support for my back that I use when I sit (its attached to the chair) and those pains disappeared almost instantly.

The trackball I myself use is the Logitech M570.
Do a google search for it and see what Im talking about. Its extremely convenient. Also helps when youre out and about with your laptop cause you don't need a flat surface for a mouse anymore.

That's not me silly...that's rsot! I let rsot use my Chiropractors but unfortunately he skipped out on the $4,000 bill.

That explains it then... Still doesnt answer the question about the carpet. Must be a Canadian thing huh?

You DEFINITELY need to see a doctor. You COULD actually have carpal tunnel. It can sometimes affect more that your wrists.

I went to a chiropractor for back pain years ago and he DID help me. In fact, I was able to stop taking vicodin because of the treatments he gave me. He told me the muscles in my back were so tense, they were like steel. I had to go twice a week for massages and twice a week to physical therapy, but the treatments worked wonders. Most chiropractors can tell if you have an issue that is beyond their level of expertise and will refer you to a specialist in that case.

I'm glad I went that route and was able to stop taking the pills at that time.
