Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

I'm just wondering if anyone here is planning on doing the windows 10 upgrade. I use 8.1 pro on my main laptop with all my accounts. I'm a little uncomfortable upgrading it until I test it out first. I have a spare laptop with windows 7. I'm thinking now would be a good time to upgrade it to a SSD & try the download when it's released. (I beleive 7/29)
Any thoghts on what (if any) effect Windows 10 may have on Stealth?

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

I never upgraded to Windows 8 as I heard poor reviews for using it on a desktop setting without a touchscreen.
From what Im hearing things were revamped in Windows 10. That being said I will not be testing it out for several months until they work out all the bugs from the system and release the first fix pack for it.
Windows 7 has worked well for me for years and it will be supported officially until 2020 so I see no reason to rush into something that is untested.

I do find the reason that they skipped Win 9 interesting. Shows how important the Chinese market is

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

What do you mean?
Is there a significance to the number 9 in Chinese culture? or is it the number 10?

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

I had read it was for Chinese cultural reasons that they skipped 9 to 10

It was in a Bristish paper a few months ago

I'm looking forward playing with it specially that it comes for free.

I'd hold off with the Windows 10 upgrade until 100% of the kinks are taken out, unless you have a spare pc to test it on I wouldn't think about it. I remember blindly upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and tried resetting my gaming pc back to factory settings, and couldn't without the disk, but the original Windows 8 allowed me to whenever I needed. That was a con in my opinion, as I never make backup disc for my operating systems. I prefer to do clean installs.

I find that annoying too. I never really liked 8. When it first came out i got it & i had just bought a used UPS zebra printer. I spent many entire evening's trying to print lables. like 8.1 alot more. As soon as i get all the updates done everything seems to work very smoothly.
I also hate that you can't do a clean install of 8.1, having to start with windows 8 is a long grueling task. I'm anxious to try it though.

Nope..

I'm content to ride out Windows 7 for as long as it lasts.

FYI: You Wont Be Able to Disable (or Delay) Windows Updates on Windows 10

You Won’t Be Able to Disable (or Delay) Windows Updates on Windows 10 Home

Microsoft says Windows 10 will be “always up-to-date,” and they mean it. There’s no way to turn Windows Update off. Microsoft says feature updates will be tested on consumer devices before they’re rolled out to business PCs.

With Windows 10, Windows becomes a lot more like Google Chrome or a web application — it will automatically update. But they’re forcing more than security updates, and Microsoft has a troubling track record with broken Windows updates recently.

AND: As you can see, I hate Windows Updates as they seem to mess things up. I haven't done one in almost 2 years and my laptop runs beautifully. :)

Working with Windows 7 and 8 on the newer comps.

Older comps still run Win Xp nicely.

I agree 100%. When the first service pack comes out, then it is time to consider it. Unless it has some GREAT new features that you just cannot live without, I see no reason to upgrade. I have Windows 7 on my desktop and Windows 8 on my laptop. I HATE WINDOWS 8!!! Not enough to try to put Windows 7 on it, but enough to keep me from upgrading to Windows 10 until I have to. Or, until enough people tell me I don't know what I am missing out on. Windows 98 was a SEA CHANGE. Windows ME was a DISASTER. Windows XP was another great upgrade. Windows 7 was also a good one. But I am fairly skeptical about Windows 10. The best thing I think I can say about it is that it will PROBABLY be somewhat better than Windows 8.

But time will tell.

I don't know why a British newspaper would say that. The real reason was so that it wouldn't be confused with Windows 95 and 98.

If windows 10 make drivers and softwares backward compatible from windows 7, I would definitely switch. Speed is also a big factor for me and the start menu.

Makes smarter sense - the '9x' throws it off

Well, MS policy is nice, why to spin numbers, if you can just put upgrades endlessly. Will get it to have a closer look when it hits retail market.

I envision a lot of angry consumers in the near future. Some company out there will take advantage of this, and release a better OS, most likely for free. Its going to be an overnight sensation. As far as 7 goes, be careful. Once Microsoft stops supporting an OS, the easier the vulnerabilities.

I remeber BeOS was trying to compete with Microsoft and just couldn't gain traction to get it to the mases.

Im sure lots of other people wont like it either.

Windows will always come with a firewall. And with it comes the ability to block whatever you like. Updates included.

I am sure if one goes into the registry and/or go old skool DOS style, the auto update can be changed/stopped.

DEFO gonna be pokes out there to sort that - one click style (yes 'style' my new word of the day it seems)

The automatic update thing makes me nervous, hopefully they do it right. Ive had tons of bad update experiences even on 7 to the point where I disabled all updates and made them a manual thing

Updates can be disabled, via special tool.

Windows 10 a worthy upgrade INDEED!

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

I updated to windows 10 Wednesday from 8.1 and so far so good. No more charms bar on the right hand side & the start menu is reminiscent of windows 7. I think it definitely looks a lot better than 8 and I think its easier to search for folders & files.
No problem logging back into user accounts. It does have to prepare the desktop which takes a time just like opening a new user account. ( I use a SSD so it's less than a minute) . I approve firefox as my default browser and it's business as usual, all the history tabs, cookies etc are still there .
So far I say it's a winner!

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

i dont know. i had windows 7 or 8 on a laptop a few years ago and it was the worst $250 laptop i ever bought. it had a touch pad which made it impossible for me to navigate without unintentionally clicking every little thing. ended up tossing it out.

so i dont look forward to new versions of anything because i always get the worst one.

Re: Is anyone looking foward to Windows 10?

bad experience

I have this laptop and it automatically did a win10 update that took ages, and it could not be stopped....then when I tried to log back in, the password for the admin user is not working and I cannot get in to guest acc either!

I tried reboot hitting f8 and win plus 7 key and all other tricks and it wont go in to safemode.....

not end of the world, and prob not worth the $70 it would cost to send to repair shop, as it is a secondhand laptop anyway, I used it as a spare holiday laptop, plus it held a stealth amazon on it and all its cookies....

so thanks win10 - laptop now a doorstop!!!!

You may have checked already but the password should work, is it possible that you have hit the cap lock?
