Aliexpress asking for pictures of id & debit card
 

I've been purchasing items from aliexpress for years, now all of a sudden they're asking me to send pictures of my debit card & id before im allowed to make future purchases.

Do they require buyers to use "credit cards" only, instead of prepaid cards, or is that not the issue? What should I do? Delete the account and create another account, or start purchasing with credit cards(not comfortable)? What do you recommend?

I forgot to add that if I attempt to make any purchases the status of the order will say "cancelled".

I got the same thing about 2 weeks ago. I went ahead and sent them the info they requested. 1 day later I got a message that everything is fine and was able to purchase things again.

I dont use prepaid cards on there but I do change my debit card once a month for that. I use a special account at my bank attached to that debit card. When ever I need to purchase things overseas, I transfer the exact amount of money to make the purchase and no more and the debit card gets changed once a month. That bank does not have a VCC.

I once got a call from the fraud department at my bank on why I do that and I explained the entire thing to them. They said "good" and let me go.

I also had this happen on dhgate just last week.
I usually make large order amounts of over $3k.

My purchases are usually under $50 at a time, and it's for myself, so idk what the problem is. Maybe it could be the prepaid card, or the many disputes I've filed against sellers.

Since I purchase small orders A LOT, I don't think your method would work for me (good idea though), and I DEFINITELY wouldn't send them a picture of my identification. There's numerous complaints about this posted throughout the net. Guess I'll delete this account, and try again. If that doesn't work I'll have to find a new similar site to purchase from.

Weird, they didnt ask for my ID, just a copy of my debit card, front and back with the back numbers blacked out.

You can always get creative with the ID part. But I would never send them my real ID info.

Your ID? Can you really trust a Chinese website with your real ID or any other website on the web? T-mobile just got hacked recently and that makes you wonder if anything online is even safe anymore...

Any info on the internet can always be hacked, you just have to take more precautions.

If they would have asked for ID, I would learn how to use Photoshop.

So what are you trying to say with that.

I mean always with what it means, "always". Just look at all of the companies that had their info hacked or info stolen from. Some vehicles are able to get hacked and change things around.

I am not smart enough to ever understand how too do it or even learn the basics even if someone was beside me.

Must be a move to protect the account AND also protect themselves from chagrebacks - one reason

Years ago on dhgate, I would get the samething asked and I would send it in and everything would be fine. Alot of fraud going on in this world so everybody is trying to protect thereselves. Goodluck.

alot of places can get hacked that have your data, not just AB, but if you are buying stuff and not even high priced stuff then why are they asking for id that no other shopping channel asks for.....I bet they will put off alot of customers, who will simply go elsewhere.

As for 'stopping chargebacks' and protecting themselves in disputes, how does it matter if they have this info on file.

If it is fraud prevention, possibly I understand but it is unusual and people do not want to give their id out to buy some cheap goods that they can get elsewhere, they have a receiving address and that is all they need....

bottom line is you should assume dodgy people already have your id already....make sure you only ever give out your DL not passport...hehe I had to hire a car in the middle of nowhere in an emergency in yugoslavia once and I looked at the guy as he took a copy and I just knew he was going to sell the info or something.......

Haven't been asked for ID or my card...however, lately when I try to search for items, it makes me sign in....or it makes me input a turing code.

Weird, I was having the same problem a couple days ago. Every single time I attempted to go to the next page it'll force me to enter a Captcha code.

If you purchased and did chargebacks before, you are now a high risk person in every merchant's eyes.

1 year 2 months later, i''ve finally decided to give it another try, and they're still asking for the same documents, so this is my question:

If I send them my ID, can i cover my face, and identification number?

Can I cover every credit card number except last 4 digits? If so which free software blurs face, and numbers?

Does anyone here have Stealth Aliexpress accounts? If so, when having items shipped to you, do you just have em "dropshipped" to your place, or do you use a forwarding address?

I can't believe they are acting like paypal these days. I definitely wouldn't send them a picture my ID or credit card. Send them a scan. Such shipments should go to a drop.

Have you tried calling them or get them on chat? They tend to be very customer service oriented on those venues.

I GIVE UP. They are requesting too much information. I'm going to delete my account, and go elsewhere.

*On the picture of ID, the name should be shown. On the picture of cards and bank statement, the following information should be shown: bank logo, bank name, the first six and last four card number.

*On the bank statement, it is advisable to show the statement of your payment on AliExpress. A copy of your personal ID or passport if you used a personal credit card for the transaction; a copy of your business registration if you used a company credit card

*A copy of both sides of the credit card used. A copy of the bank statement for the credit card used.
