Backup your stuff don't be lazy!

I almost screwed myself really bad because of my laziness. My laptop with all my accs hard drive was failing slowly. Making a grinding noise and not loading windows. To make it load i had to turn it upside down and keep rotating it until it stopped the noise and loaded windows. Each time it took longer and longer. I did this for about a week. Finally after taking me about an hour to get it to load i decided to back it up and create a repair disc. Took about 12 4.7gb dvds and a couple hours.

That same day i tried to check my accs but the hard drive died completely on that same day. I got really lucky pushing my luck with that hard drive. Now that i think about it, if i lost all my info/other stuff on that laptop it would hurt a lot in many different ways.

Moral of the story is, don't wait till the last day of your hard drives life to back it up. I almost f'ed my self real good by doing this.

good advice bro...we are all guilty of being a bit lazy, i once had a laptop that's charger only charged a certain way so i physically had to hold it in place every time it needed charged- just couldn't be bothered buying a new charger lol

That's what I like about cloud services like Dropbox, I keep all account info, pics etc. which can be accessed by any device online or through the app.

As far as windows laptops I've gone through a dozen too many of them, Apple isn't perfect either but treats me much better. I have 1 windows laptop in the closet that makes a loud moaning sound keyboard doesn't work and it's loaded with bugs, I'm saving it for target practice later..

I've had an asus laptop and my dad had one as well prior to my lenovo. Both of them had this happen. The power socket inside came off/got loose and it wouldn't charge unless i held it in place. Was an easy and cheap fix though. About $3 if you know how to solder a new one back on properly without messing up the mobo.

I'm more old school and just print all my info and put it in my secret spot in my room. I thought about could services like dropbox but i honestly don't trust any cloud to protect my info.

Old school? And you're talking about your dad and hiding stuff in your room? Ok haha

No but you can also download your info and print or save to flash drive, but yeah keeping a backed up harddrive is always a good if not better practice as well..

Just do everything from a VPS that is being backed up automatically several times, and be safe if your laptop dies / house collapses / city is destroyed by aliens. And yes, work with it from any place in the world.

I try to have backups automated. It is super easy with cloud services. On apple products icloud can be a savior for the basic stuff. I try to save everything in notes, numbers and on flash drives.
