eBay Slowly Transforming to Amazon

"Making listings more uniform and Google-friendly is part of a multi-year project for eBay, Stairs said, but it is a process of some complexity given that eBay’s sellers — from single consumers to the small retailers who use eBay as an online selling channel — create the listings themselves."

eBay aims to transform shopping experience to compete with online giants Alibaba, Amazon

I think it's a good idea, it shows eBay is willing to change and compete with Amazon and Alibaba. It's going to be difficult (change always is) but in the long run.. I think it will be a good change.

I really do think it depends on the category. If you are in electronics or something that is a direct competition with Amazon I see that happening. In my category with the products they have more or less left us alone. No of the UPC stuff I forget the exact name required. The category has been left alone. By in large it is hard to sell the same products on Amazon because listings must be standard, on eBay is goes back to the older Garage sale style unique listings.

I will always like the nostalgic Garage sale style unique listings...simple for those new to the Net game as well

I can see it being really good when it comes to certain categories: electronics, games, accessories and just brand items really.
BUT, it'll hurt your average Joe a bit when they start chopping up smaller categories that include handmade stuff, restored old stuff, collectables and some of the other more "special" categories.

I guess time will tell and I'm sure I'll manage to adapt to the new way of doing things. Might be good for me, who knows!

If they move towards Amazon style, I wish someone would move toward old ebay style as that demand will increase....

Facebook is doing that already with groups.

Yard sale and groups can be awesome when well organized in a nitch. Now, a lot of that business has moved into the early 90s style of ebay in good groups, especially international. Great for small sellers. Time consuming for bigger sellers.
Either way, another option and platform most of us should take a look at.
