USPS package not delivered or scanned? HELP!
 

So I did a trade with a guy on a forum. He sent me shoes and I was not pleased with them so I told him I wanted to send em back, he said sure no problem. I covered the shipping and sent em back to him same was as he did to me, priority mail and nothing else just the included $50 tracking.

Now of course I've never had an issue EVER with shipping and of course now all of a sudden the package has never gotten scanned aside from the acceptance and has not be delivered.

At this point I'm not sure what to do, I had prepared to file a claim with USPS but seeing as the insurance is only for $50 when the item is worth about $450-500 USD.

Since my insurance is $50 is there anyway if I file a claim and provide enough proof of the items worth that they will approve it and possibly give me a check for the value or the item or near it?

I'm not sure what the other guy wants me to do, i am not responsible for the package after its left my hands. I hope he is not thinking in his mind that I would be paying him for the shoes or replacing them. I paid out of pocket to ship His shoes back EXACTLY how he shipped to me. So I am doing all I can to help him I'm just not sure he quite understands the situation at hand and I'm hoping USPS can find the package so this guy doesn't get screwed over.

I need help and any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

No, if you did not declare a higher value, they will not pay out a $500 claim. And the fact is, you ARE responsible for the package.

HOWEVER, don't hit the panic button just yet! This has happened to me a couple of times and when I called and inquired they found the package and delivered it. Something could have happened to the label and they need the address and it is sitting in a corner somewhere. It happens.

And I am sure you are not thrilled with my response about you being responsible for the item. But look at it this way. If you shipped a $500 item to an eBay customer and they wanted to return it and the same thing happened, you would be SCREAMING about not having to take the loss because it was not your fault.

The lesson? Always declare the full value of what you are shipping and pay the couple of extra dollars. Sometimes cheap is dear.

There was two labels on the package, one from USPS with the address on it correctly spelled out as well as a hand written one in big bold letters. I made the label on the SSK? Machine

So 100% confident the address was 100% correct.

Obviously I'm responsible in a way but in a trade or something I can't be made/forced to replace the item. I'm doing more for the other member then I think most would in this situation.

I'm not sure what the other party is thinking but that's why I haven't filed a claim yet because me or the other party will not be satisfied with the outcome "if" approved of a $50 check.

We have had instances where scanning had not happened with USPS.

Contact the PO and see what they offer.

Maybe still turn up....
