my daughter has this app, and she is calling out who she caught as we go along in the car...

I noticed alot of people, mainly teenagers but some kids and adults doing in the park this week...we talked to alot more people, as they have that in common.

I am sure it will get monetised soon, either with paid for add-ons, or to encourage people to go to businesses.....

I can say when I was playing I talked to people I normally wouldn't talk to. This game is really making history. It has surpassed both Google maps and snap chat as far as user base.

You're probably right about the monetization. Right now they are making money when you buy items in the store. But I'm sure they will add something else.

Lol. It's not even just the young ones anymore. I went to Stone Mountain the other day and a lot of older people were playing it too. Before it was like why are all the youngsters always on their phones? Now I see a lot of people mid 40's and later glued to their phones playing this game lol!

Yea because they know someone stupid is going to go into the enclosure, get hurt, and then try to sue the zoo lol. It may sound stupid to us but it is very necessary. Not a surprise to me.

IMHO, people should walk around and cross the countryside to see trees, leafs, rivers, bees, squirrels, birds and stuff.... not to look at a cellphone screen.
I'm probably ancient.

Re: Pokemon Go

I was just thinking that myself this weekend ilcarletto......

I have so much PITY for younger people/kids...they never knew a time where their nose was not in their phone all day....

My kids are younger, but I have been on holiday and outings with nephews and nieces in their teens....oh my god, I cannot take it....on a beautiful beach or event... nose in phone...

is this modern day life? they may as well be sitting in their room all day and not go out, if they keep checking and playing, instead of smelling the flowers and admiring the wildlife...

and they are soooo ungrateful...I mean I know teenagers are anyway, but if you go on a great holiday, and they are like meh...so what, is there wifi?

Re: Pokemon Go

Indeed our society is going in that direction but we have to teach to our sons the difference between real and virtual.

My son is 12 and he is really attracted by games, youtube, whatsapp, facebook and all kind of devices. Me and my wife are working hard to avoid him being addicted. We are giving him timeframs where he can do all the above stuff with his friends (virtual or real) then he must do something else.

This is not easy but it is our job. At the end of the day he is very happy to have spent most of his time, out playing with his real friend and with a real ball on a real field. ;)

Seems like a lot of the hype is dying around my city.

I can't see it lasting too long to be honest

Re: Pokemon Go

Sounds like you have the nail on the head there to quote a phrase elmo, maybe Nintendo are realising that the crazy success of this game won't last could be its a one trick pony, time will tell how and if it has any longevity to it.

Re: Pokemon Go

I think this still has a lot of potential, and although the hype may drop off a bit I think this will last. There are still die hard pokemon fans out there, I mean lets face it the games are still going (I know I've got to a point where I don't know the names of any of the new ones, I have no idea what generation they are on now lol)

This game has really brought people together, our town has its own facebook group specifically for pokemon go where they arrange meetups. I think its a great tool, I've never wanted to walk so much in my life, and I've spoken to people that I never would have even looked in the eye before. I know its been great for a lot of people, from helping with social anxiety to fitness, there is even a story about one woman seeing her autistic son interacting with other children and stepping outside his routine for pokemon go.

I really like to play the pokemon games though, and the thing that stopped me playing the recent ones is the hand held consoles. Its not just 30-40 quid for the game, its 100-200 for the latest nintendo DS. But with this, pretty much everyone has a smart phone. I haven't spent money on pokemon go yet but I have spent my google play credit, and I know people who have spent real money. Money pokemon might never have got from us just making console games.

oompaloompa - its just a kid/teenager thing. And also down to individuals tastes and hobbies. When I was younger I had a gameboy and a gamegear and I was hooked on those, I remember wanting to play them constantly on holiday with my parents but mainly because I was too young to appreciate adult things or scenery/history/architecture/peaceful settings, sitting still was boring at that age with nothing to occupy you. Now I'm a lot older I still heavily appreciate video games but I love nature walks, little towns with independently owned shops and architecture. For our Egypt holiday we relaxed indoors with handheld games or phones but by day we were quadbiking in the desert or swimming along coral reefs with dolphins. When my other half got sunburn it was his hand held console that kept him occupied. I really do think you appreciate the real world more as you get older.

If they keep adding things and features, it could last quite a while...
