if mods locked posts once they were over a year old

I see a lot of old threads being bough back from the dead which are clearly old and no longer relative. In my opinion people are posting just to get more posts. and then someone sees someone has posted and then will post something like are you really going to reply to this post over 3 years causing a chain reaction and the thread to come to the top of new posts once more.

If mods were to lock a thread after a year or so this would not happen.

I have seen this happen a lot of times.

just my two cents

It would harm the site to lock old threads, in my opinion. Many forum members were directed here when a Google search found a thread relating to the question they asked Google. They would be less likely to join or ever post anything if the thread relating to their question was locked.

Just my $.02 as a former forum owner. More traffic is always the ultimate goal at the end of the day. Let the mods clean up the riff-raff.

Personally, if its relevant, I don't see any issue in bringing up old threads.

Clearly if someone has gone to the effort of searching for it, and has a question to ask - the answer may help others.

But it is everyone's responsibility to keep an eye on the date of the thread, just as you do with the title of the the thread etc. (usually one of the first things I look at, but that's just me perhaps).

As long as on topic, it's not really an issue to be honest - actually shows that some people are taking the time to search, whether by google or by forum :)

Then you missed the other day when a spammer bumped a thread.

They addressed a question to a user who had not been on line for over 6 years.

I might have missed that day indeed - those happen time to time but guess it can't hurt to have an autolock feature implemented after 1 year or so

The account sellers would absolutely hate it. A thread is a thread.

^^^

In other words, locked threads have some goodies, lol, let's keep it that way.
