"alt" tags for country flag images

I don't know how easy it would be to modify something like that on a VBulletin forum, but alt tags for country flags would be great.

As it is now, the "user online/offline" image (images/statusicon/user_offline.gif , images/statusicon/user_online.gif) has alt tags saying "XXX is online" or "XXX is offline" but country flags are unlabeled.



This means anytime I see a flag I don't recognize I have to manually copy the image location, open a new tab, and load the image so I can see the full URL and determine the country.

Aside from saving me time I've heard it's beneficial for SEO and is also a requirement for HTML5 compliance.

Save you a lot of time doing what? You just like knowing where all the flags are from lol?

With Chrome, all you have do is right click the image and select "Inspect". FF used to have "view source" or something similar.

When I see a flag I don't recognize I'll admittedly waste a few seconds to find out what country it's for. Each second is absolutely critical, ebs. This place gets visitors from places I've never even heard of.

I would think inspecting the element or viewing the source both take longer than right click, copy image location, Ctrl-T, Ctrl-V. You don't even have to load the image because the country name shows in the full image URL.





Any of those 3 methods are a PITA compared to just hovering over the image and seeing the "alternative" text that's supposed to be there.

Just timed myself... from the instant I right click on the flag, it is 3 seconds until I know what country it is.

I have started planning a full forum upgrade (new platform). It doesn't make sense to focus on this right now when everything will change in the coming months.
