Fresh Start

How do you guys feel about a fresh start? The forum completely starting from scratch with updated software? We would use xenforo and just start over? (https://xenforo.com/community/)

The current forum software is end of life and is extremely difficult to upgrade / update beyond where it's at.. not worth it to fix it but instead, switch to something better.. the only costs would be starting over from scratch.

That would mean all content not carrying over.. which to be fair is dated anyway and not really of use for SEO purposes.

With a fresh start that would mean new topics, cleaner forum software, etc..

There is not much to lose doing this, the forum is already pretty slow anyway so it can only improve things.

Let me know your thoughts.

THis is just pondering and thinking for now.

This is a difficult one, would it mean losing our accounts?

I do like the idea of a fresh website, new topics e.t.c.

I should be able to import account information, ideally that should be the bare minimum to bring over from this forum

I would rather see this than continue watching the forum die a slow death.

Can you start a new forum and keep the old forum say for 3 months .

I agree, switching to Xenforo software with new skin is the most important update.

I was thinking of doing exactly that.. giving people time to transition over and than eventually forwarding to the new forum.

just leave as is

but you remind me of a joke:

if the business in a brothel does not run well you exchange the furniture , if the problem persists you exchange the girls , if the problem persists you exchange the management , if the problem persists you shut it down

Not yet. Keep on as normal. I will not rush into it so hastily.

There are still some things to ponder

In any case, it is better to import some (for 12 months) or all topics into Xenforo installation (it's possible, you know), as there is a large amount of helpful information and answers here

Thanks, you’re right. I’ll see if I can do it.

I think bringing over some threads from the last 12 to 24 months would be ideal

Loosing everything here over the last 2 decades would be a shame. There is a lot of really good stuff here still.

I don't think it's the fact that the forum itself being outdated is the major issue either. A new clean layout would be good but also new POI and a new direction to focus on.

Social media marketing, AI tools and how these together can br automated in to running something really great

An entire section just to content creation would also be great as it's just so vital these days

Yep yep. I’m dealing with selling my house right now and last minute tax things but the plan is to setup a new forum, with new topics and import as much old forum as possible.

brothel? what are you talking about... I'd rather street walkers. but a better scenario is moving product. if it's not potent and the fiends cant get their high or fix. you switch suppliers and/or don't put a cut on the work.
