How is eB's stock going up?
 

So from 2009 to now, eB's stock has gone from 15 to 55.

HOW?!??

I know they've jacked their fees up, but it seems like they're actively eliminating all the sellers while causing massive losses from professional buyers.

How is eB doing so well??!!?

You have to admit eBay is a Great company. All the hassle , and trouble all us sellers have to go through but we all play there game because it makes us all nice profits.

I sat down with a group of accountants a couple weeks ago. They asked me, "Doesn't ebay make money off of sellers like you? I don't understand why they would suspend your account"
My answere was "NO. That is exactly why they cut accounts like mine often and seem to set you up for failure.
No matter what, ebay will make more money, without that large account that controls the market, sets pricing, and gets thousands of free listings each month, and lower FVF, most customer support and the lowest paypal fees. Fifty small sellers will sell the same amount and give ebay a much larger percentage than my one big account. The buyer really dont care if they buy from me or another seller. They are ebays customers and are going to buy on ebay if I am there or not."

Ebay is an amazing company. Oftentimes there crazy rhyme and reason is not all that crazy.

It's not just eBay. PayPal is still a growing business. StubHub another eBay company is a leader in second hand ticket sales.

Then you have interest rates at basically nothing so across the board people, firms, etc. Have been dumping money into stocks searching for return.

eB has also been active with acquisitions like kijiji and gumtree - while not the best model for sellers, the popularity of the company allows for stock interest

2011: $2.03
2012: $2.36
2013: $2.71

EPS can be somewhat misleading. Like many other companies since eBay does no pay a Dividend they have been purchasing back outstanding shares. You could have the exact same revenue in nominal terms but because the number of shares outstanding has decreased it can push up EPS. Just something to always think about.

Hard for me to own a company that has been profitable for over 10 years and never paid a Dividend.

Yes, Wall Street is more and more a confidence (con) game where shareholders don't get to see the cash. We're just told, "trust me, it's there."

Yea, that first article should be more titled how John Donahue killed eBay. We will never see that special community that was eBay in the early days again. As much as I though Whitman was a fool at the the Donahue is has been the Devil especially to sellers on the site. His policies have exponentially fueled Amazons growth since he has taken over.

Certainly not small business friendly these days. Better be a Five million dollar minimal seller or watch every month for the axe, lol
