Re: Calling in for credit card credit raises?

Amex is known for giving 3x credit limit increases to you if you have been a member for 90 days. If your credit is the same as it was 90 earlier when you got the card and you have made 3 payments on time and kept you utilization below 30% a 5k limit can turn to 15k easy. Also if your credit limit increase request is denied Amex will not hit you with a hard pull. They will only hit you with the hard pull if they award you more credit which is cool as hell to me.

Amex will not grant a credit limit increase if you make a minimum payment of $35 on an outstanding balance of a couple grand. The amount of the payments you make is very important in credit limit increase decisions. Serious payments can get you serious increases. It's sort of like eBay and PayPal accounts, they treat you according to how you behave and conduct your business.

What if you're at 80% utilization but you pay the statement balance on time? So for 9500 limit, got maybe 8000 used up, 6500 dollar statement balance and you pay the 6500 on time?

Re: Calling in for credit card credit raises?

If all your other credit is in order and your score is still at or near where it was when you applied then yes you should be fine with a $1500 balance on a $9500 card. They should be happy to increase you.
If you don't want to have to submit documents then only ask for 24k. Anything over that and Amex will ask for proof of income and tax information. I think someone confirmed this earlier in the thread.
Also if you don't get the full 24k they will most likely come back with an offer of there own. I asked for 18k when I was at 6k and the countered with 12k which I happily accepted.

Also when you make your payment you have to check and make sure it posted to your credit report and not just your credit statement.

Your credit card company should be able to confirm posting of the payment on your account and credit history. I have inquired about this before to Visa, MC, and Amex

More importantly as far as reporting is knowing when the card company reports to the bureaus and making sure that you are always below the 30% before hand. It is as simple as calling and asking. It is every 30 days but not always on your statement day.

You want to confirm that your payment for that month has hit your credit report not your credit card statement. The credit card companies look at your credit report When considering credit not your statement. The report tells them everything they need to know about all of your statements.
