Mercari Asking For SSN Now
 

Just a heads up, I just got asked for my SSN on Mercari. I already was ID verified and after I complied with what they asked I received this,

It looks like your Mercari account is being ran as a business, however, we currently do not support business accounts. In order to proceed, we need clarification regarding your account activity.

We are requesting the following pieces of information to assist us with our review of your account:

Are you conducting business as a sole proprietor/ Limited Liability Company (LLC)/ Partnership/ or Corporation?
What are your anticipated activities and volume (i.e. top selling items)?
Where are you sourcing your inventory from?
If a wholesaler, do you have a wholesale/distributor agreement?
Do you currently have the listed items in your possession?

I have no doubts I'll get my account reinstated but I imagine this will affect lots of people once this becomes more common.

I’ve had the account for about a year. When I opened it I verified it with my ID and selfie. Yesterday I got a restriction asking to verify my identity. After I did that (where I had to include my SSN), this was the email I received.

It seems that Mercari accounts opened starting mid 2019 are getting these type of document request. Just recalling old threads I read from last year.

I don't remember how old my mercari is and I haven't gotten any type of requests.
But then again, I've only done about $3000 total todate.

I have moved $8,000. They didn’t respond yet which pisses me off. I didn’t do anything to violate the terms.

Some guy tried to buy 6 items all at once and sent this stupid message saying he wanted to buy 15k every few days. He also tried to buy on my other platforms. I understand to an extent the restriction but it’s ridiculous I’m held accountable for someone else’s actions. I’m not a wholesaler, and never responded to the individual.... smh.

I’m going to call them Monday if they don’t respond. I don’t appreciate them restricting my access to everything without providing a solid reason why. And I have over 1k sitting in my account. Really annoying.

you may not be a wholesaler,but you are moving your merchandise like a retailer/wholesaler.

If you keep a high balance without transferring funds they will hit you with ssn check

8k over a one year timespan is considered a “wholesaler”? 8k is not a lot of money smh. That is on average $1,500 per month. I sell higher priced items. One individual tried to buy 6 items from me. One individual. So because one single person attempts to it blankets my 80 other transactions under this?

No it was clearly because this individual tried to buy to many items all at once. In my case at least. Then sent a stupid message implying ridiculous high risk transactions. All his items were cancelled within the same hour of my own restriction claiming my account was “flagged” for verification. It’s same thing on eBay. If you pass a threshold you get flagged. I know this was a bot who flagged me. And whoever manually reviewed the message somehow equated his message to me condoning it.

Ok it must be something else then. Unless there's an invisible rule that once you hit above $5k they ask for ssn .
But that's unlikely.

Can you cash out on mercari Using Payoneer diff name? And how do you avoid ssn and selfie request?
