Mercari scammers

Good lord... mercari is full of scammers now.

They'll sell 1 item and when it sells, they open multiple accounts selling the same items immediately.

Then they'd ship you garbage

Re: Mercari scammers

I don't get it, what do they do exactly?

Mercari is the lowest tier marketplace. I made good sales with it, but it's impossible to grow because they just suspend accounts that do well. They seem to be anti business.

Re: Mercari scammers

so 1 account sells 1 item worth 100-500$.
once you sent payment, immediately 3 other accounts sell the same item, description etc at the price sold. So they were figuring out what prices people are willing to pay.

thing is that 1 item is rather rare. So it's not mass produced

Re: Mercari scammers

i'm not a buyer on there, but interesting insight. i would think merc would have some controls in place to keep this from growing as strict as they are. cheap stuff sells great there, but i always struggled with expensive stuff

Well, they haven't done anything about the other accounts this particular scammer is using...

It's still the same and I contacted customer service and they canceled it for me the next day so I'm good.

well sellers will love this. buyers eat the fee but looks like returns/refunds are guaranteed for them now. at least the 72 hour window is still in play

you should know better not to buy on that site

solefoodbk 03-29-2024 11:50 AM

Re: Mercari scammers

Thats the dumbest idea ever.

3 days is nothing when you have Amazon or eBay where 30 days is standard. I don't know why someone would want to pay extra fees just to be able to return something when customers don't even like to pay for shipping!

unkown5454 03-30-2024 11:16 PM

Re: Mercari scammers

3 days is great for a seller. i dont give a sh.t about the buyer. they've had free reign and abuse it everywhere else.

Re: Mercari scammers

Yes, this is happening very often on Mercary, it is a totally hostile land, many scammers, and the platform affects those of us who want to sell honestly on it.

Might not have the greatest controls in place yet due to not having the highest sales traffic?

I just made another account after my other one was suspended last year. I now know not to process more than $2,500+ per month. 3 times I've verified myself with the ID check. I don't know what platform they use but it's clear to me this information is not stored in their systems.

THey ID check you on mercari? I haven't made any new accounts but I haven't seen that aside from the annoying "give us your tax ID since you're close to $600"

The verification with the selfie is what I meant...

In terms of the tax docs, I think you can reuse same SSN which I have twice now, just need to switch the business name with new EIN and everything is fine. The last account I had was perfect in terms of feedback, but I know what I did wrong that got me suspended. Lesson learned for this time hopefully.

Mercari stock is also down 80% from it's ATH.

Adyen. Same for their tax system.

Personal SSN works fine as well. Adyen is behind it.

Re: Mercari scammers

After you change an SSN for the EIN, you should keep in mind that eBay will most likely request physical documents from the EIN and others linked to the IRS. If your documents work, the account will be very strong

100 percent Adyen system. That is how you get around being caught with stealth during tax set-up.

Re: Mercari scammers

Not being an ass, but a lot of you don't get what Mercari has done. It has gone from the cookie-cutter PayPal plus commission system fee schedule aka eBay's old mold, to something entirely new. The new system is on fire if you know how to use it correctly. Putting the cost on the buyer has caused price manipulation where the sellers can offer lower prices, obviously, and engage the consumer. Think of it as the reverse UNO card like eBay used to do with buy-it-now and bidding. Also, this will increase inventory and exposure to new heights as sellers see profit potential and are ultimately able to afford more products to flip. I've seen my accounts go from 250-500 a month to 1k-1.5k accounts. It is working.

Re: Mercari scammers

Mercari is a good marketplace, I’ve already sold $500+ on my new account this month. My last account got randomly suspended after $25k+ sales. I think I know why it happened, but I believe there is only so much you can process each year on Mercari without getting flagged by their security. They don’t like big sellers.

Problem with Mercari is 1 single listing and they will keep hounding you for tax ID once your account hits somewhat close to $600

It was simply a mistake, only in your brain delete ebay and put mercari in its place

Why don't you just add it? I have done it 3 times now. I don't exactly know if it's because I get them to manually accept it, but when I input my information it has always not been accepted. So, instead I send them proof my business and they manually remove the restriction.

My last account sold over $25k+ within about 11 months. It was never suspended for linkage of accounts.

All you should need to pass verification is supplying the EIN document from IRS, however I also include my operating agreement as well.

I think technically you could pass it without even it being valid, they would only know until a year passes and IRS rejects the information.

I GUESS I would... I don't sell much on there since it doesn't feel like for bigger volume.
