Mercari asking for ID

After many many many years, while I was trying to post an item for sale now they want me to verify my ID before they'll let the listing through.

The older listings are still there.

I wonder if it triggers because I was posting a wee bit extra?

No, it is their new system. Every new account I've attempted to create requires face verification with ID before I can even list the first listing.

Mercari is trash bro, there are way better marketplaces to spend your time and energy.

@solefood

I was easily generating 500 per month on any random account. I'd like to see another marketplace do such easy numbers. Ebay is a hellhole to keep every account averaging 500 profit per month. Amazon is practically impossible to run stealth on. Etsy, I may give it a go again. Poshmark is mediocre, but ban happy. FB Marketplace is dead compared to its old algorithm. I'd love to find this magical market.

every one of them could be a magic market,if you discount your items so you make no profit.,and may lose money.
eg.
The latest iphone for $25

That doesn't sound like a good business plan.

While I might agree it is easy to make sales, if they end up just stealing your money at some point by a random restriction, that does reduce your total profits from start to finish on the account.

The last account I had committed no violations I'm aware of, had no problems, but after 5 or so sales it got restricted. Held $300 in my account. My email clearly says after shipments are completed I can request to have my funds released.

I send them countless emails and not one agent answers my question. They just say I'm suspended. I'm sure whoever is read my emails thought it was funny too. Cannot believe its a public company in Japan. They are no better than a thief because they don't even uphold their own policies. I don't see why Mercari will be relevant in 5 years.

Since 2023, all my accounts were randomly suspended with no previous violations. I think they just wait until my account gets money then do it, but have some intention early on, but don't pull the restriction until money is in the account. Which should be fraudulent and illegal if anyone could prove they're doing it.

At least on eBay I know what I was doing wrong. They don't just restrict for random reasons, not that I have found. Mercari has agents that will just restrict you off their random emotions, and steal your money. They've stolen over $3000+ from me.
