poshmark, Mercari, Depop

Ebay is very slow, Im trying to sell clothing but not finding any business on ebay only the weekends.
Anyone have experiences with Poshmark, mercari or depop?
I tried signing up to Poshmark but was instantly restricted as beinglimked to another account which was a total lie

Depop seems to be gaining traction - for Poshmark, you are going to have to use stealth method...kind of hardcore like AZ it seems

I sell on all them, and yes Depop actually has. If you check Etsy earnings they specify the growth.

Regardless, both a great during the holidays, it begins next month.

Used designer brands in good condition would be sustainable

Market is flooded with replicas and demand is waining nearly every retail level designer brand is struggling at the moment

Replica market is always good at the right price but forget about trying to resell things like second hand Nike trainers or Gucci shirts

Big brand names like those are always a big risk used or new we know that.

But if you can enlight us with other much less risky brands, I think that'd help and also the key to selling on these platforms

Less risky brands are the smart approach and idea

A friend of mine was selling authentic used clothing from big brands and had issues on eBay even right after listing them. Would these other markets require invoices or accept receipts from resale stores/thrift stores?

None of these marketplaces accept thrift shop receipts as proof if there is a issue. Depop for example likes to see the address on the receipt, and sometimes asks for a video if you send them a email confirmation receipt.

There is no connection on a thrift shop receipt to the item being sold (at least back when I was doing this), thats one of the problems. The other is, naturally a thrift shop could imply anything. Ebay, along with every marketplace wants directly from the brand, or very well known 3rd party authorized resellers like Nordstrom Rack. If its not a well known store, it won't work.

These days these marketplaces generally seem to want individuals to be operating like full scale businesses which kind of defies the second hand market place business model which is built upon arbitrage and reselling

Theres just so much fvcking bureaucracy hitting e-commerce now

The bigger brands are also feeling the pinch from declining retail sales and consumer confidence so are targeting resale platforms more to get rid of competition selling product for less than they are

I recently had the brand owner report listings of mine on Depop, who had reported me in the past dating back to 2021. The only one to report on marketplaces like Depop, Poshmark, Grailed. All the others usually stick to eBay, or Etsy. Outside that, reports for me are generally extremely rare.

However, the listings themselves I needed to update anyways, and planned to run auctions on eBay in a few weeks. It is a sh1t brand now with declining sales, so the fact this guy took time out of his day to manually report my listings makes me if anything feel sorry for his sh1t brand, and that he would rather waste time reporting then building something of value.

So you have some of his products, used I'm assuming and he's throwing a fit?
I dont get how some people think. If I were him, to me what you're doing is free advertising.

Do you think it’s still possible to register a brand-new account on Poshmark or Mercari and actually start selling? I recently created a new Poshmark account from scratch, but they won’t even let me submit my Seller KYC info for verification - the site just shows an error. The Prada sneakers I listed, of course, isn’t getting any buyers. Same as when I tried selling an Apple product on a new Mercari account, even with a 40% discount, I only got one response. It seems like without buying pre-established accounts, it’s no longer possible to break into this market. At least Amazon actually sells your items no matter what, although you usually won't see your money after that.

Re: poshmark, Mercari, Depop

Mercari is a$$, I don't care about those visits, they steal money, and have zero ethics. The 3 last account I had, I received an email randomly saying my account was suspended. All the accounts I have made since 2023 all got suspended without zero cause.

To put into perspective, only one account had (1) negative review out in total 300+ sales. I had (1) customer ask to return something on the first account, still nothing to imply a suspension.

I have sold on this marketplace since 2020, I know they do flag listings, however my accounts from 2023 never had this. Zero reported listings. No upfront reason ever given. The most recent, I received an email explicitly saying after all my items are delivered I can send their support an email and get my payout. They won't honor it. What they do is ignore my tickets, and continually will say they're escalating to the team who can assist me, then they never respond.

Because in my case it was around $400 the act of spending time continually trying to get this money back is counter productive.

They are f*cking criminals. If you have a policy as a marketplace, you have to obey it. They don't because it's a foreign company. I hope they f*cking going out business before 2030.

It is one thing if you want to suspend sellers with cause, I get that, but when you do it like they do and then keep the money, that is f*cking absurd. I will never sell on their marketplace again.
