need help understanding seo?

So im trying to get more customers to my site and cant understand seo. For example lets say im selling shoes.

For keywords what should I put can someone help me get started?
If people use these keywords in google or yahoo my site would show up?

Obviously you want to have the names of the shoes on the item's page.. make sure it's in the title and that you include keywords that people commonly use when searching to BUY these shoes. For example buy nike shoes, buy blue nike shoes, etc.

Create small 300 word articles for each of your product pages(unique content) and add your keywords in your article but don't spam.

Make sure your URLs are SEO friendly.. like the URLs on the this forum.

Add your website to directories, write articles and promote them on article websites, comment on forums, blogs, etc to get the spiders to your site.

It's a lot of work.. but once you get the traffic coming it's well worth it.

Great advise Aspkin

For the keywords why not refer to tools provided free of charge which tell you how many searches are being done on a monthly bases https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal- Once you have your keywords then do as Aspkin mentions above.

yea askpkin, thats the way to go.
But you forgot a few really important stuff like pinging, and submitting
to social bookmarking sites, and do-follow web 2.0 article directories.
And thats not all.

If i was OP i would outsource everything.
Seo to really make a dent is alot of work.
You would really have to automate the process.

cheers. :)

One quick way is to register domains for your keywords.

It's a long slow process but you need to get good quality links pointing to your website's homepage.
