Bing pay-per-click Anyone actively using Bing and are you getting any results?
This is on the low end for a budget. There is not room in my situation for a $2000 or $3000 budget
I hammered my google adwords pretty hard the last couple weeks just to watch results pretty close. Getting some nice traffic but the costs are way up there. For a small standalone site its really hard cost wise. I had a daily budget of $22 and it was burning down by afternoon to "ads only showing occasionally". Again the traffic was ok and I received a little spike in sales. But at this rate its $700 a month. That's double what I can justify for the sales. And even at $22 a day it seems light by their standards.
Bing is relatively new and flashy. And I wouldn't be surprised if a huge majority of 18-35 year old use it. And maybe worth a try. Google has me at around $1.80 a click. That adds up fast. Maybe for the same money Bing would show better results.
Any experience here with Bing?
Cheers |

You'll get sales from it but I don't think it's worth the effort. Instead focus on your adword campaigns and optimize them for better results.
Focus on keywords that are making you money and eliminate the keywords that aren't converting. Add power words throughout your ad text and website to entice buyers. Keywords you should focus on should be long tail, and include buy, or cheap, etc. Adding price in your ad text will reduce clicks, but will better prepare a buyer. This is especially good if you have a lower price. Focus on keywords that people will type in Google when they're in the BUYING mood and not the research mood.
Don't use broad keywords, instead use phrase keywords.
"keyword"
Just some quick tips. |
Thanks.
1/20th? wow. I guess less people are using Bing then I thought. Google has been making so many changes lately I thought maybe they were trying to stay in beat with Bing...
Part of what I have been doing is keeping a close eye on what works best. I have made a few changes to the site and the ads and keywords.
I just seems to be awfully expensive. 4x what it was a couple years back. I think I'm going to also add one that has a couple keyword phrases that may not be as expensive and target better. |
| aspkin | 08-26-2010 03:04 PM | Go here and compare traffic from Google.com and Bing and other sites ---> Google.com Site Info
It's not 100% accurate, so use it as just a guide.
There are a lot of little things you can do to optimize your advertising and landing pages to increase sales. It takes time, but after awhile you'll start converting a lot more of your visitors.
If you need more tips, just send me a pm.

Another issue as well is ad block and the likes. A lot of people dont even see ads. I dont |
| aspkin | 08-26-2010 03:09 PM | You're talking about Google Ads? Well if they don't see it, it won't hurt you.
Now when those ads are on your site and you pay people to come to your site, then yes that'll hurt you. Though are you selling a physical product? Or is this affiliate marketing? |
I sell products. I meant in google itself. If you have an ad blocker installed any google ads wont show. I dont know how popular blockers are, I've used them for years |
| aspkin | 08-26-2010 03:20 PM | Well yeah, but the 1 in 500 or so users that have this (mostly savvy users), probably won't buy from you anyway. You're not losing anything because of it so it's no big deal.
For me on the other hand, having ads on my sites, and using common scripts that Ad Blocker filters is no fun. I just redid my whole Ad Serving network the other day to get past Ad Blocker Pro. And so far things are looking good. :) |
What are your thoughts on tag clouds? I've never used. I can set them up on my site if they have any advantage to SEO |
| aspkin | 08-26-2010 03:59 PM | They help, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to other things you can do.
If you want to work on your SEO, contact Gremlin, he does a great job to get you ranking higher. http://www.aspkin.com/forums/buy-sel...-rankings.html
There are other services you can use as well, but how they work depend on the age of your site. If you website is 6-months or older, I can pm you details on what will really help you rankings.
* mind if I move this to 'webmaster jungle' section? |
Ya, I've already fine tuned everything for SEO. I was just fooling around with the small stuff. I never used clouds and was just curious |
| aspkin | 08-26-2010 04:15 PM | For an ecommerce website, it probably won't add to that professional appearance you should be aspiring to. A professional looking site, that's bright, easy to use and clutter free does wonders on buyer trust. If buyers trust you, they'll buy from you. It's a physiological game really. Also site layout is extremely important.. but that's something else. |

Whats a reasonable budget / sales ratio for adwords in your opinion?
I got hold of a whack of google adwords bonus codes and setup a few campaigns. In about two weeks I have "spent" about $300
I've received I figure about $900 in sales from that. Thats not a great ratio.
But Its a specialized product focused at a niche crowd. So not being a generic product the sales may not necessarily be instant gratification... I took a couple years off using adwords and I remember it being a bit cheaper before. But new product and site has brought me back in the fold
But there are maybe some extra factors to consider. Some of these visitors may return later and generate sales. Sort of an awareness if you will.
Thing with adwords it seems, a budget of anything less then $1000 mth is pretty light.. I'm paying around $1.20 to $1.80 per click. So 20 clicks a day and there's a grand. Having a hard time thinking how valuable it is. Its a catch 22 here. Hits are up 40%. Sales are up maybe 20%. But summer has always been slow as hell.
Having a hard time deciding if $1000 budget on adwords would generate around 10k in sales once rolling. Thats pretty much what I would consider fair. 10% - Am I asking too much? |
| holymoly | 10-24-2010 06:49 PM | UPDATE: Bing now gets around 15% of what google does...lol, not much of an increase | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:58 PM. | |
