Registering a domain name. extentions???

Hey guys, I tried searching to see if anyone had already asked this before just couldn't find anything reguarding extentions.

I'm wanting to register a couple of domain names, but I'm a little confused about the domain name extensions.

I'm located in Australia so .com.au is a must, as well as .com

What about .net .net.au .co.uk .co.nz .eu .co .biz ???

Is is worth registering all those to stop someone else creating the same domain name as mine and steal traffic? Or is .com and .com.au enough?

:noidea:

Thanks guys. :hail:

Just start with those two no point in wasting money in all of those you never know how successful the site will turn out if its busts in 2 months you don't want to be stuck with all those domains. Two to start is more then enough.

Nah, I would agree with '123', this seems like a new venture and you should limit your expenditures.

It is a nice idea to purchase domain names to stop other people registering them but this should be done when your website has real potential.

You could buy the domain names and use them to redirect to your main domain just to make sure even customers who get your domain extension wrong, end up getting directed to your main site.

:peace:

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I will take the advice and only register the 2 main ones for now. As they going to be parked for a while anyway while I concentrate on getting back on ebay.

I also don’t want to rush the site, I don’t want a boring plain website. I want something attractive and clean that stands out.

I plan on selling toys and collectables through the site. I realize it is going to take a lot of work in order to get 1/3 of the traffic of ebay but I feel at the end of the day it will be worth it as my main back up source of income, while still using ebay as my booty call.Cos thats the way ebay deserves to be treated.

Anyway see how we go. Thanks again guys. :thumb:
