Redirecting Domain to my Store

I have an ecrater store and would like to redirect my Domain name to my ecrater store, how do i go about this?

I am clueless on this topic

Also, its obviously better to go with a .com but what about .net? there seems to be much more options with going with a .net

can anyone help?

.com and .net are basically the same... but I would choose a .com over a .net because more people type in .com when entering your URL domain.

There are many ways to redirect a site. If using Godaddy, you can edit your domain options to forward to whatever site you want. Most domain registers have that option.

But you can use a 301 redirect or PHP redirect as well. Only difference is you have to keep your hosting for those types of redirects. Usually if you're going to setup a redirect from the domain register, no hosting is necessary.

I bought my domain from Websitespot.com, but i am thinking of buying another that is shorter, the one i bought is 17 letters long and thought of another one that is about half the size, so should i buy my next one from godaddy? websitespot.com was $3 cheaper thats why i use it

I like godaddy, but if you already have domains at websitespot I would stay there to keep organized. And a shorter URL is better. :)

alright, Thanks a lot for the info. I just redirected the URL to the store web site. How long does the process take until it actually redirects it?

It's depends how you did it, but usually instantly.

I've bought many domain from godaddy, I use a php script to redirect them to my main website and collect some information on my visitors (location, ip, browser, screen resolution, the URL they come from...). That's pretty useful to evaluate the efficiency of an advertising campaign.

Most domain servers are updated quickly, however it can take up to 72 hours for your redirection to propagate.

Should i mask it?

aspkin 04-03-2008 06:10 AM

If you want to. It comes in handy sometimes, but for what you want to do you probably don't need to mask.

TMiles 04-04-2008 08:18 AM

Yes, if you do not mask, the people being redirected will see your old domain name and not the eCrater name.
