| natbabes | 12-14-2011 12:07 PM | Just a thought Hi guys & girls,
Just a thought, Do you think they'll ever be a site that is as good as e bay to sell/buy from?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts :) |
maybe one day you know the saying what goes up must fall down...... myspace was huge and look at it now because of facebook .......not exactly the same but just an example |
| cardfelon | 12-14-2011 12:19 PM | I don't think so. Many companies have tried to get into the auction game with no luck. The investment capital required to try and compete with Ebay would be outrageous. |
good point but i don't think ebay will last forever and if they make it so strict anything else will look better IMO |
The main problem is that eb is such a marketed brand with heavy societal entrenchment - very difficult to beat it. Am az on got to its own niche by slow build. Eb (in the beginning) was also very popular - very difficult to get that groove going again. We can hope however - I'll follow oge, cardo and jabs - thank you very much ha |
| seanws30 | 12-14-2011 01:22 PM | someday google will rule the earth, and then yes, ebay will fail |
| jamblix | 12-14-2011 01:47 PM | ^^^I think if Google opened an online marketplace it could take over eB for sure. eB isn't going anywhere though I mean even through all the **** that they've gone through the company, buyers, sellers everyone it's still the 7th ranking site of the whole of US and 20th globally which is VERY HIGH.
I don't want another company to take over anyways eB has been good they just need to change the ****ing policies that are screwing the sellers over and give us some more FREEDOM to do business. Now that I think of it I can bad mouth eB and Payp all I want but, at the end of the day it's them that are making me money.
We can say things like oh **** eB and screw Payp, but who are we saying that to really? It's like if a fisherman doesn't catch any fish and he says "screw this lake!" it's not the lakes fault that he didn't catch any fish...OK that was a ****ty example I haven't had much sleep in the past 60 hours or so so my brain is functioning at around 40%. I now like to think of eB and Payp as I don't know an entity I guess is the best word I can come up with and accept that things won't always go my way unless I make the right decisions. If you use all the knowledge and tools at your disposal, whatever route you choose eB/Amaz/Payp you'll be successful is what I'm trying to say. |

The big money investments came after by investors who saw the opportunity. The same goes with Facebook and others.
MySpace at one point seemed unbeatable, before Facebook even existed. Then came Facebook and where is MySpace now? Last I heard is that it got sold for 10 or 20 million to an advertising company, which is nothing compared to the almost billion it was once worth.
Eventually, thanks to their poor business decisions, eBay will fall. They won't close, but they will no longer be "the" marketplace, but just "a" marketplace, just like MySpace is still "a" social network. |
| Artann | 12-19-2011 12:56 PM | there is some gigantic chinese online market places and if they decide to translate their website and adopt ebay business model (auction) it might just do it. |
how long do you think eBay will last then? tbh i cannot see it dieing anytime soon |
| imjustme | 12-22-2011 11:11 AM | eBay won't "die", no matter what happens. They may be replaced eventually with another platform, but they won't fully "die", I doubt that.
Like with MySpace and Facebook. MySpace still exists, but they're no longer the leader they used to be before Facebook existed. |

personally i hope they stay forever,as other member said they just need to change some of there policy's . |
| GrannyT | 12-22-2011 12:45 PM | Ebay is like the beast that constantly re-invents itself.
The first thing you need to understand is that to Ebay all sellers are dispensable. It is the sellers that are responsible for Ebay getting the name as the counterfeit and scam market of the world. It isn't the buyers. Everytime a foo-foo item of dubious quality gets sold it's another nail in Ebays coffin and they will move heaven and earth to stop it happening
There will always be sellers to replace us and who are prepared to work to the rules and limits they impose.
As far as Ebay is concerned the buyers are the driving force behind their business and while Ebay and Paypal do what they do to protect the buyers they will keep doing business. If you don't like it? That's just too bad - from Ebays perspective you are just trouble.
If their business starts to suffer they will re-invent their business model but for the forseeable future that isn't going to happen.
It has been said many times on this forum that the cost of doing business in a bricks and mortar store far outweigh what you pay to be on Ebay.
imjustme has a very good handle on it in my opinion and seems to be getting his little ducks in a row
(He needs to change his avator now though to the little fat kid) |
| dabig05 | 12-24-2011 08:03 PM | What I would like to see is Netflix get into the other parts of the DIGITAL selling market; MP3, Cloud, DVD/CD/GAMES. I think it would be a hit if they had a market place where others can sell their stuff. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 09:16 AM. | |
