TIME WARNER HIGH SPEED ROAD RUNNER SCAM

My high speed provider (time warner's road runner in NYC) told me only Time Warner Cable controls the isp addresses of their subscribers. And that I have no way to change the address at will. They said even though it is a dynamic address, they control the change. Even if I unplug the modem, it will always read the same old address.
Even if I upgraded to commercial account, I still would not have the right to change my ip address at will.
This entails that anyone who gets an account banned, is screwed.

I need a better internet provider.

Any suggestions?

That doesn't sound right, I have road runner and I can change my IP anytime I want..

I spent an hour with two internet techs at TW and I was told exactly that. That I cannot change my IP address.

Call them and ask yourself. I bet they'll tell you the same thing. Unless TW is zoning certain areas by putting a lock on personal ISP addresses.

I can't change my ip address to save my life. And I have a new apple notebook.

Hmm, I can understand TW is different in some places. Its time to move on then, you need the ability to change your IP when you want.

I am about to try out the Cricket wireless broadband, $50/month unlimited, the modem is nothing more than a keychain style USB plug in drive. You can plug it in to your tower or laptop at will, and supposedly since it is like a 3g wireless phone, you will a new ip each time.

I will get one on Wednesday and let you know about that.
