Let's compile a list of other marketplaces...

AmazonStealth 07-07-2013 09:06 PM

It kind of depends on your location. The ones in the USA for the most part are all known and have been discussed on here, or easily accessible by google.

jeffweico 07-07-2013 09:14 PM

The problem is, most of these venues have very little traffic compared to eBay and Amazon. And little traffic = few sales.

Probably the best of the alternates are Bonanza and Etsy.

Ioffer, unfortunately, is known as a place for counterfeits and sketchy items. PayPal does not like them very much.

imjustme 07-07-2013 09:27 PM

That's true. But I'm also trying to find out which ones are growing, like Bonanza and Etsy have.

Strangely, ecrater.com recently launched a new and nice design, however according to Alexa ranking their traffic dropped horribly:

Here is a new Interesting ETSY Like site:

RebelsMarket - The CounterCulture Community & Marketplace

jeffweico 07-07-2013 11:20 PM

I like that one! Interesting stuff... Don't know if I'll find anything to sell, as it is not my specialty, but I can see buying a few things there!

Gamefreak 07-07-2013 11:59 PM

Most of the bigger websites now have their own 3rd party marketplace

BUY.COM
NEWEGG.COM
SEARS.COM

a few others too but of course only LEGITIMATE businesses allowed and most want you to be grossing 1-3 million minimum or have other special requirements

jeffweico 07-08-2013 12:05 AM

I've been told it is almost impossible to get approved by Newegg. You could probably be approved at Buy.com or Sears.com - the only thing is, your items MUST be totally authentic, you MUST be professional at all times and you MUST have good quality items.

Hah.

Epic fail then

Im on buy.com and sears. Easy approval. newegg told me you had to be grossing 3 mil plus a year to even get a consideration there and have a SUPER track record with any other sites you do sell on.

Intense review process it seems. Ill reapply in next year see how it goes.

So impossible, that a handful of people are selling TONS of count/er/feit products on NewEgg. They have thousands of listings to trick NewEgg and it clearly works no problem. Sad to see that NewEgg clearly has no experience in controlling this arena.

Also seen coun/terf/eits on Sears, but much smaller amounts.

Agree, I have nothing I could sell here but it does have a lot of interesting items.

Maybe the "handful" has a connection there, or they got in early? I spoke with a Newegg rep and was told they are not looking for the average eBay seller, but for manufacturers, larger established retailers, or smaller retailers able to bring something unique to the table.

It will last as long as it takes for IP lawyers to find them. I highly doubt NewEgg is kosher with it. They are just ignorant to what's going on. No legitimate marketplace would survive, unless they are based in China like iOf/fer.

Nice find! Looks like they only launched 3 months ago, too.

Rubylane.com looks promising

imjustme 07-11-2013 11:38 AM

http://www.goodsmiths.com/ is another one like Etsy.

Rubylane has lots of visitors, mostly from the US and they're not even far behind Bonanza.com but their design just turns me off every time I visit.

easy to get approved on sears. They do check that your business is legit.

Right on imjustme - checked out the website - the design is not at all enticing - reminds me of old website construction - static copy and paste

GreenBean 07-12-2013 05:08 PM

Ruby Lane is passé

Not like it was 8 years ago

Needs revamping

:heh:

imjustme 07-12-2013 07:17 PM

My wife says Rubylane looks like an old folks home.

Bear in mind, that old folks homes can have treasures.

Not that Rubylane is so good these days. Overdone itself with pricing etc.

Wow 8 years...that's not good at all

GreenBean 07-14-2013 09:13 AM

@rsot

If they do not want to revamp, they can take the loss of traffic.

:mod:

imjustme 07-14-2013 01:43 PM

My guess is that they think that an antiques marketplace needs to look old.

So I'm curious, you all must be spreading the funds throughout multiple sites. Most these sites go through PP. So if PP see you selling on all these websites wouldn't they have a problem with it or try to limit you?

It is not a problem,,Also, you do not really need to accept Paypal,,a regular merchant account or Google wallet will do nicely for a Vast majority of sites

If you approach your PP account like PP is TRYING to limit you, your operation will fail. PP is not out to get you unless your operations are risky in their eyes - there are ways to avoid that evil eye.

Now that being said, slapped is right - I am a fan of avoiding PP unless abso-fugging-lutely necessary

This goes back to how you create and run accounts.

ebay/paypal are one way of doing business.

For those of us who have expanded, we use other means of payment too.

We avoid being the victim of paypal.

Seen that in the book, I learned my lesson a long time about putting a whole lot of money in PP......

You can't access it through a regular browser, you need the Tor Browser and the actual address.

unkown5454 07-25-2013 01:35 AM

There are a dozen copy cats after Silk was exposed. On top of that, people have been getting busted so tip toe for those of you keeping it Silky.

Here is a new one I found:

Locally started sites can take a while to get moving.

Reminds me a little of quicksales ( from Australia).

Local Internet Entrepreneur Launches Okanjo.com - Business - Sherman Oaks, CA Patch

Have friends selling there. Must follow-up for some info.

Was speaking to an American buddy of mine yesterday evening who brought up okanjo before I saw these last few posts...he was talking about Registering his charity cause on the website - interesting aspect.

If you sell legal things on there, you're not breaking the law. :)

You have to be super duper anonymous on there.
