Should i get someone to design my ecommerce site or are there cheap alternatives?

hey guys is it really suggested to have someone design my ecommerce website? I am currenty with bigcommerce and during the online chat they told me to get someone to design the site for me since I have no knowledge on designing sites.
Should I opt that way (of having someone design it) or do cheap alternatives exist that would give the same result?

That depends. You CAN do it yourself using templates provided by many ecommerce websites, but that involves your time. You will have to try a few things to see what works.

If you have more money than time, you might want to hire a professional. In general, you will probably get a better result this way. But it can be expensive.

If you are looking for freelance work.

Check out odesk.com or fiverr.com

freelancer.com is also a great resource for finding talent

Several sites exist as the others mentioned.

www.flippa.com might be worthwhile checking.

Have you considered Facebook as part of getting traffic to your site?

Of course I should also mention aspkin's new project

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ebay-di...-business.html

Check it too.

Find and Hire skilled Freelancers, at a click - PeoplePerHour.com Is something I have used in the past to hire people though. Works well

yup for sure that and twitter... What other means exist to drive traffic to ones site? Besides social media, I'm kind of in the dark as to how that functions. Thanks in advance :)

Can consider Google Adwords too

Does the new boss book mention how to drive traffic and the best methods?

You need to buy his book. He put a ton of hard work into it and as always you should follow someone who has been successful. My Grandpa told me when I was little to always watch successful people. No matter what they are successful at watch how they do things.

You can watch Aspkin do what he does best once you buy the book and read.

Many ways to drive traffic to a website but if you want to learn from someone who built this site and others ( and you do see the traffic here ) then grab the book and start making money.

Find a good cart system that allows you to modify template without being a tech genius. It is getting more and more user friendly now. I would start there.

If what you need is more advanced than tweaking templates, you can do it yourself but it is a time sink if you have no basic knowledge. Weigh where is your time best invested -> growing your business or learning a new tech skill?

On the plus side, if you build basic skills for yourself, it will make it easier to hire good freelancers. They are less likely to take advantage of you.

This book is an EYE OPENER for anyone thinking of making a website.

The book is written like aspkin is holding your hand....

He explains the moves to make.

You read them, re-read them. And say sh*t...... I never thought of doing it that way.

In terms of helping, the book is brilliant.

It's another masterpiece.....

and aspkin does great masterpieces.

You see I'm still pretty young but my goal is to definitely grow my business. I've been working in the corporate setting for almost 2 years and I've had it, just can't take it anymore. So yea, I think teaching myself would take too much time especially since I'm fed up working for someone else lol...
You guys have all been really helpful with your responses in this thread, I really appreciate it!
