Good luck with your new website. I sincerely mean that.

However, the only new RECENT marketplace that I has seen be a success was Silk Road. And they were just shut down by the feds. Silk Road was like an eBay for illegal drugs and guns.

The fact is, it is very difficult and EXPENSIVE to drive traffic to new marketplaces.

Exposure !!!! If you can afford to get advertising out on late night TV to help launch it but also in magazines, mail flyers, twitter, pop-up ad all across the internet.

I have no idea what all this would cost but I sure would like to see and use a site that would start the decay of eBay.

eB has long been in decay but it's a famous brand name so it will sustain quite well.

To survive you need traffic, to get traffic you need a niche area of people.

Etsy so far has been the only one of 100s to ever survive because their niche market is the hottest thing going today.

My opinion is to not open yourself up to millions of items, concentrate mainly on niche or hot markets to get started.

The less the better as long as it is the correct areas you can concentrate on.

Good luck.

Thanks i'll take that into consideration. I'm really trying to take over eBay not just a small niche market.

Humm

You need to start small and grow, you wont overtake them without a solid business plan.

If it were me I would not even think about taking them over because it is not going to happen. They are just too big and 18 years later no one could touch them totally other then maybe google.

But that does not mean you cannot dream or get a fair share like Etsy has.

Hope you research how many have come and gone because they had a horrible business plan.

At worst if you do good then ebay will swallow you up with a big payday.

Besides etsy I feel Bonanza heading in good directions.

Ebay would never buy it.

They are too greedy for that.

They would find others way to take it down or out without spending the money.

I think a niche site is the way to go and the only way to compete at all.

TRAFFIC IS VITAL.

No traffic no success.

Have you been on Aspkins other site about websites and traffic generation?

The funny thing is you want to compete with Ebay yet your primary payment method is Paypal. As long as you do business with Paypal, you are never really independent of Ebay.

Re: Online Auction House ItemAuctions.com

I like the format, colors etc.

Only 4 registers users as of today.

If I can get some free time I might toss on some items to grab some google searches to see if I can help you get some more traffic.

What else are you doing to get traffic to the site?

Fees does not matter.

Traffic does.

Many people like me are extremely busy right now and to take the valuable extra time to test your site at this point would or could cost us profits.

Not a good time to roll out this yet.

First of the year when I have more tome I will load you up with some items but you need traffic.

No one is going to take take when black Friday is coming up etc to test a new website.

I am sure they will in time.

For bulk listing you'd have to use a comma(,) for the CSV column delimiter.

Please feel free to ask questions or input any suggestions.
