is play.com good marketplace to make money?

Already selling clothes on ebay, amazon and own website? Just received a call from rakutonen play.com.

I'm wondering whether play.com is a profitable marketplace to sell clothes on. Their fees seem to be slightly high. They charge £260 for 6 months membership plus 10% of all sales.
I would be tied down in to the 6 month contract. Plus i would also need to pay for channel grabber/ channel advisor or some other form of software to integrate the stock and listing process across all the platforms.

Our website has been an absolute waste as too much was being wasted on marketing. At least with play.com we wouldnt need to market play.com as such but Im just wondering whether the resources of our team is better concentrated on focusing on ebay?

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks guys

depends on your products, some items get no sales or very few....

I agree the fees are way too high.

things like logo t shirts and box sets go well there though....suppose if sellers are put off joining then less competition, and seller competition is a big factor on the busier sites.....

Lol, the infamous box sets - f@ke central.

I hear nowadays play.co m are actually monitoring fairly well. They test purchase from all new buyers anon and send to a certain agency to test.

Going off the point slightly, still competitive on that site but you might have more luck in pulling in sales than your website

I think the problem with play is they no longer allow small sellers, you have to have a merchant account to sell now and you have to stump up 6 months fee's upfront which is alot of cash considering accounts start at £43.50pm.

Without anyway to test Play for your products its hard to know if you'll make any money. I think play need to re-think the way they allow sales and make it more like ebay/amazon.

Have to know your niche well and be ready to deal with some underhanded competition + low traffic compared to eb and az
