Re: Play.com

I listed there for around 10 days and didn't get a single sale. This site had a lot of traffic 5-7 years ago and in fact was where I did my first online purchase as a kid, but now is dead. I would stick to eBay + Amazon and perhaps your own site if you can be bothered. Personally doing eBay and Amazon now and it's working out very well, and will probably do my own site soon too.

This was within the last month.

They stopped selling due to some tax thing I think. Something like they couldn't get the tax free sales on orders under £15, so their profit margins pretty much closed. Now it's just a poor mans Amazon by the looks of it.

The announcement comes following the closure of a tax loophole in April 2012, which had allowed the Jersey-based company to be VAT-exempt on many of the goods it sells.

Play, owned by Japanese firm Rakuten, had taken advantage of the Low Value Consignment Relief loophole, which allowed it to sell goods without VAT if they were under £15 in value and sold from outside the EU.

Why?
