Does anyone have experience selling domain names?

I was wondering if anyone has had experiences (good or bad) selling domain names? Like most people, I have picked up a few over the years that I have never used. I couldn't bring myself to let them go, but I'm tired of paying the renewal fee on domains that I will most likely never use.

Any tips or advice? I'm not willing to let them go for $20, but I also realize that the days of getting thousands of dollars for just about any domain name are long gone.

I once sold a couple of domain names about ten years ago, on Afternic (I think) and one even sold for almost $10,000. But I just listed them in an auction which would probably not work today.

Try flippa and ebay you can move them. Be very careful tons of scam buyers out for the domains.

Flippa is fine, also GoDaddy auctions is pretty good.

Use escrow.com if it's a large transaction.

I have bought more domains through auction then I have sold. I have never personally had a problem but I try to be careful.

What are the scams? What should I be on the lookout for?

I looked at GoDaddy and any domains sold for more than $1,000 go through escrow.com and they pay you directly for the domains sold for under $1,000.

Are they like eBay, in that they will want a refund if 4 months down the road, the buyer initiates a chargeback? It seems to me it would be pretty cut and dried since the WHOIS database would show the buyer as the new owner of the domain. Or am I missing something?

I sold a bunch on flippa and ebay never used godaddy and chargebacks can be an issue. I never was able to get godaddy to return a domain if the payment got reversed

chargebacks and the unathorized transaction claims are the worst.

Flippa is not too bad for this market.

Have a browse around it for a while.
