Who's on BidorBuy and how you receive payments?

Howzit!

So after a month of back and forth with them they accepted me as a seller :)

They have a payment system, however you need a South African bank account for it. There is an option to instruct buyers to pay with other payment methods, even paypal can be linked. However, to have paypal added you have to send them an email to do so. Can I use a stealth paypal account for that?

Are you selling on BidorBay, whats your experience and how do you accept payments?

Dankie :FF:

Maybe put up the URL.

There is the South African site which you are talking about & an AUstralian site, a poor copy.

Have you checked the conversion rate of the rand against the Thai baht?

Thats the one bidorbuy online shopping - Buy & sell phones, tablets, electronics, games, fashion, jewellery, baby products and more online in South Africa the AU version I don't know.
Not sure about the convertion rate, I trade in USD.

I was wondering what payment options others offer and how others do get their money?

lol i used to sell on there when i was back in South Africa... I tried to continue selling on the site when i moved over here to the UK.

But it does not work so well for us over here. EVERY South African has 'trust issues' and so even though you say it takes 2 weeks + to get items to them in south africa from what ever country you are from they all want them yesterday and accuse people of fraud every 2 minutes.

The postal tracking is not so good from when it leaves the EU and so a lot of them claim non receipt/delivery on items so they get a lot of freebies, and they also complain if you use expensive couriers like DHL because of the customs they charge.

The thing is there is money to be made on there especially since most of them don't know the value of money, as i used to make double what i make on ebay, especially with the Crazy Tuesday/Wednesday auctions but its the scammers and impatient people that ruin it for you.

Hi

I would avoid it like the plague! The staff are nice as they like international sellers but the South african sellers (99% of the site) will take on a lot of dirty tactics to get you shut down, I had all my listings regularly reported, other sellers tried giving negative ratings, one tried buying all of my stock items i had for sale then not paying every week etc etc

The buyers are a real nightmare too.. because of the country its based in, if the product isn't at their door in 24 hours your automatically a fraudster.. i used to get spammed with abuse and i sent stuff DHL which got there in 3 days!

finally paypal shut me down because i recieved a payment from a high risk country lol

so my advise... dont touch it with a barge pole unless you live in South Africa.. lol

@Elass and Bunneh, thanks for the feedback and insight. Having sellers trying to shut you down and impatient buyers are no fun to deal with.

I guess you will get it everywhere lol.. but its the fraud accusations really, You just have to remember they cannot 'do' anything to you since SA has no ties with anyone.. they just use it to scare you a lot lol.. :juggle:

Been bullies like that for years.

Brother used to sell on the site.....until an item did not arrive. His buyer got upset at the remedy my brother offered....
I guess the buyer must have still wanted to play Rugby Union.....pielkop

Found the answer, and they agreed :)

Please note that bidorbuy will only process payments to international bank accounts if you have prior written approval form bidorbuy to use an international bank account.
Keep you guys posted

Paypal is also fine to use, as you only give them your payment email address for paypal.

Unless its changed since i last sold there.

Still can, but you need to inform them.

I don't like paypal, and they don't like me. I don't want my money frozen.

Update: Did write to them again regarding the bank account, they agreed to transfer money to international bank accounts if the amount is over USD400. Fair enough and a good solution for me.

Did you ask them if you get charged a fee for the transfer?
Because SA banks charge fee's for absolutely EVERYTHING.

Last time i transferred money in SA they charged me R900 ($74) :pout:
