Thumbs down Final Value Fee on Selling Item's Tax

Today I happened to question the amount of final value selling fee and called to find out that the charge is: sale of item, shipping fee, plus tax on item. It is not fair to be charged a fee on selling item's tax. The fee is already high on the item itself plus the shipping charge and should not be charged on the tax. This means ebay is getting paid on a government charge. Not Fair!! We already paid tax on the item when we bought it then turn around and get charged again when sold!!

Welcome to the forum friend.
To respond to your comment - plenty of things ebay does are unfair. Your options are to use their services or try to find another platform to sell on...

you are paying FVF on sales tax Ebay collected from your buyer and remitting them to his state ?.
are you sure it is FVF and not MP processing fee as your buyer uses a credit card?

As unfair as it is... is it more fair for us as the seller to pay that processing fee for the sales tax amount.. or for eBay to come out of pocket and pay that amount? I can understand why they do it. Even though it's a gov mandated charge there are still processing fees associated with that extra amount.

I know it sucks but all you really need to do is find the state with the highest sales tax and then factor that amount into your listing price. Then if someone from a lower tax state buyers from you - extra profit.

it is the cost of doing business, brick and mortar retail store where customer uses his cc,it would be paying processing fee on the total amount-item plus sales tax.
