I used to use this method...I can't remember it now....Can you see if you know?
 

I used to use a method to change my IP address which was free, and it was easy. It's been years. But here is what I can remember.

I believe I was changing some part of the mac address, just by a letter or number or 2. Ten unplugging my router, and plugging it back in.

Then I would have a new IP address, very often the same IP address that i had the last time I change just 1 charcter in the mac address to the same character.

Meaning if my Mac address was:

B4-55-H8-6H-F2-A2

and I change the last 2 to A3. It would give me the same IP address almost every time.

A4, A5 A6, would give me the same address almost every time.

Does anyone recognize this method? I am sure I learned it in this community.

I can't open my guide which is saved on my PC, because its asking for an AUTH code which I no longer have.

This is how you change IPs with cable modems that gives you dynamic IP. This method is pretty commonly known.

What problem are you having exactly?

I just can't remember what I was doing. I feel like I was going to some web address in order to access where to change the last letter of the mac address. THen I'd reboot the box, and boom, new IP.

I guess I just can't remember where I was going to change that 1 character.

And I was using comcast then, now I have ATT, not sure if it makes a difference.

Can you help me figure out where I was going to change the character?

It doesn't matter which character you change. You'll get a new IP regardless

Yes, thank you. My question is where do I go to change the character? I don't remember. Can someone please helpe me remember? And will this work with ATT?

Log in to your router.

Try
10.0.0.1
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1

Look in your manual for the default IP address to acces the routers interface.

Then you’re looking for "use this mac address" or "spoof mac address" or something similar.

You’re correct you only have to change one character or digit.
