Ip Confusion- am I really changing IP or not ??

HI have tried to change my ip now quite easily I thought. When i go to what is my ip . com I got 10 numbers. I then released my ip -ipconfig/release - I then went into my qwest care link to reset my ip- I restarted computer and reset modem. I went back to what is my ip.com and I see a new set of numbers - its an ip in my hometown . Now I think I have changed my ip address - BUT this is confusing me- when I go into my computer - it shows my ip address as an old ip I used to us e (its one that is on ebays banned list) Whats is the real deal - what ip is ebay seeing?? From looking at what is my ip.com I am clear- I want to verify

yes, I would like to know the answer to this too. Also, everyone suggests checking the IP at IP Burger - What is my IP Address? Find Your IP Address! - but this seems to be the most basic of IP checkers and simply tells you your current IP, where as some out there can provide you with all kinds of information about your system. Could Ebay/Paypal use any of this information to link your a/c's?

For reference, I got this from : What is my IP

The address shown by ipburger or ipchicken is the address given to ebay and other websites when you arrive.

All that extra information is your computer tattling on you. If you read what's in that report, you'll see how the info is getting leaked. It's in there. It doesn't come from your IP address. It comes from security holes in your system and from java applications.

Go here: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

And conduct all the FREE security scans. See what's what.

First thing I suggest is hit the grc website for shields up (the link), click proceed. The next screen, scroll down a bit to the blue box. Click the gray button for browser headers. Read the paragraphs that explain browser behaviour. **** That test will evaluate how secure or insecure your browser settings are. If it's weak, *YOU* need to go into options for the browswer and tighten things up.

Then restart the scan and check everything. If you pass all those tests, you're all good for ebay and paypal from the computer security end. The next potential problems would be the information you put on file with them or your personal listings.

In re: post 1 - I have no idea where the old IP is coming from. I can tell you with better than 90% confidence that your own ISP is not going to help you hide from revealing yourself to ebay and other sites. The software app provided by Qwest is obviously not a solution for you.

Try unplugging the device for 20 seconds, plug back in, check your IP. See if it changed.

Completely unload that software from memory (don't uninstall it from the system though, you might need it). Then unplug and replug the device again. See what happens.

Thanks for the info- I changed my ip again- seems I made a rookie error with my account- I also was told to download privacy keeper from download.com - it really cleans out everything- cookies,tracking/flash cookies- I was told to run that thing after every session-

Vicvelcro 08-07-2009 09:52 AM

Don't do it.

do what?? I'm a bit worried- I was told to download that program by another executive vp on this board :/

You clean that stuff out, it makes you look like you are trying to hide from ebay/pp. They don't like that. Makes them suspicious of you.

Separate your logins like you're supposed to. Block flash. Keep cookies.
