Do I run VPN on my computer or on VMware?

Just signed up to 24vc... Unsure whether I should get started with in inside VMware or just on my computer. If anyone can clear this up for me id greatly appreciate it. :)

Many thanks

there is no difference if your PC is clean

There is a difference. If you have your VM configured to connect directly to your home's network, then you won't be using the VPN at all if you have it on the host and not the VM.

It's less complicated (and more scalable IMO) if you run the VPN on your VM.

Having real trouble getting started with 24vc within VMware, using Windows Xp Pro.

Cannot seem to download a version of Open VPN Gui that works with Xp.

Do I need to run any updates within XP to make this process go smoother? Any tips?

Getting super frustrated with the amount of time this takes. :(

come on, atlease Win 7 can load.
XP is no more active OS and dead one. So may be 24vc software also not supporting.
with Win 7 you can keep minimum configuration for pp us.

24vc supports Windows XP just fine. It's all I use for my accounts.

Try using softether or follow their tutorials for setting up the VPN in Windows settings.

I don't know why such difficulty. I'm reasonably computer literate and can generally solve problems, but this is all new to me, and I don't even understand the solutions to the problems that I have found whilst doing research on how to resolve these issues.

I got the portable browser and was able to download open VPN GUI for XP, but whilst following the set up instructions, it seems that I'm still unable to connect.

I'm following these instructions. https://www.24vc.com/guide?v=win-openvpn

There are 3 Open VPN config files. I move one of them into the folder; Unable to connect. I move all of them into the folder; Unable to connect.

Where am I going wrong?

Do I need to download different configuration files?

Increase RAM for your virtual box may solve your problem.

Softether is a lot easier to configure.

No configuration files. You just enter your connection details and you're good to go.

Thanks. I did it with SoftEther and it was super simple. Is SoftEther as secure as OpenVPN with regards to Amazon?

Yes, just as secure. It just looks like a network connection regardless of how you connect.

Re: Do I run VPN on my computer or on VMware?

I'd connect to the VPN on the host. That way vmware will act as a kill switch and you'd never have to worry about your vpn dropping exposing your true IP.

You have to set up a bridged connection for the guest and bridge to the hosts VPN network adapter. That way the only way for the guest to connect to the internet is through the vpn network adapter.
