IP6 also has IP4 address?

I switched to a new ISP.
I now have an IP6 address.

I also have an IP4 address when I check.
The IP4 address seems to change every few days.

I have a web hosting server.
It blocks unknown IP addresses.
This is going off the IP4 address ONLY.

If I was to use this connection and log IP numbers and not get different ID's to be connected... what do I log?
Do I log the IP6 address? I am not sure if this is changing or not as I don't log this. (Should I start to log?)
Do I log the IP4 address as well?

My web server relies on checking the IP4 address. Is that dumb on their side? They should check IP6 instead?

Does each IP6 have a partner IP4 address?
If so... what's the point of having an IP6 address?

Thanks.

Re: IP6 also has IP4 address?

Most of the internet isn't compatible with IPv6 yet, so ISP's are forced to issue both if they choose to use IPv6. I believe it's mainly done with tunneling protocols or carrier-grade NAT.

Either way there's no point in you having an IPv6. Really, zero point. Make sure you're keeping up with your IPv4 because that's what 98% of websites will be looking at to serve you pages.

Re: IP6 also has IP4 address?

If you have an IPv6 IP, you can only connect to other IPv6 networks.

IPv4 and IPv6 are two completely separate protocols, with separate, incompatible packet headers and addressing, and an IPv4-only host cannot directly communicate with an IPv6-only host. The correct way to do this is to dual-stack one or both hosts so that they run both the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

That said, many of the largest sites these days already are IPv6 ready. I think eBay is one of them.

Re: IP6 also has IP4 address?

Thanks for the replies.
But a little bit confused.
Should I worry about IP6? Should I log the addresses and make sure no 2 accounts use the same?

Currently, all ID's I use IP4 with.
But, I'm playing with resetting my router and getting new IP addresses.
I read on another thread how you can get a new IP on Sky and BT broadband in 10 seconds - that's pretty cool.
My ISP is using IP6 (and IP4 as mentioned), so I guess I need to take into consideration?

@nick and OP - I found an IPv6 checker that says eBay isn't capable yet, FWIW
