| stealth | 12-05-2009 09:11 PM | Easy IP change I was reading a lot on the subject from easy DOS commands ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew (which doesn't work by the way) to a complicated VAN MAC router address change (which interrupted my internet connection for good) and still not finding the way to go. When I bought a new Linksys router it did change the IP, but going back to the old Netgear router did not change the IP back again. Obviosly it was not a practical solution. So, I'm now considering returning the Linksys back to BestBuy, but the fact that it was on sale and Ive got now the N-broadband versus the old G-network makes me think about keeping it, anyways.
Anyhow: Here's the the brilliant way tp change the IP address that I stumbled upon accidentally and it works like a charm!
I normally use the main desktop computer and three laptops connected wirelessly through the router configuration. One time I connected one of my laptops directly to the modem and... I got a brand spanking new IP address! Went on IPChicken, IPBurger, What's my IP websites to verify that and yes - it is a new unique IP, nothing remotely close to the old I had, even the numbers sequence is unique: xx.xx.xxx.xxx - the old one and xx.xxx.xxx.xx is the new pattern. The beauty of it is that when I need to go back to my wireless configuration, all I have to do is hook the modem to the router, reset the modem and the old IP address is right there. Vua la!
Pretty simple and effective way.
