Change IP Address with FIOS
 

Hello,
I don't know if this has been answered, but I have an Actiontec modem and router in one that came with FIOS. I am unable to change the MAC address or the IP address when I log into the router. The only way I can change my IP address is to unplug the coax cable from the modem/router for at least 5 hours, and it doesn't allow me to save the new address. The release and renew command prompt doesn't work either. Anyone offer some insight? I'm dying here. I bought eBay stealth, but it doesn't cover this issue. Appreciate the help.

I think you need a Linksys router or you need a free download of Ubuntu Linux which comes with "Virtual Box".

Virtual Box?????!!!!! I'm slightly familiar with Ubuntu.
How does this work?

I have a air canopy service with direct line of sight. and NO modem! - just a power cord into this little adapter.

Actually I haven't used it yet but used to use Ubuntu, it's supposed to be like the virtual software you can get where you have multiple virtual computers with different mac and ip address running on the same computer. Another good thing about Linux is its dual bootable from the BIOS, you can still keep Windows.

I downloaded Ubuntu and Virtualbox, but it still gave me the same IP address. No one seems to know a workaround for this. I'm stumped.

Thanks philly387, but that doesn't seem to work either. I follow all the steps but it says file is corrupted after I try to load the new configuration. I guess it's back to the drawing board again.

You need to change your mac to get a new ip with virtual box.

I can't seem to open .exe files in ubuntu in order to open a mac address changing program. I tried to use winefile, but I can't figure it out. Anyone know anything about that?
