Using Tor for IP addresses

Any good or crap idea?

You cant use proxies. Getting IPs is not all that hard. Dont go looking for ways to beat the IP when you can just get new ones

I dont think Tor is a proxy though, not sure.

What about VPS (virtual private servers), I'm in the UK and want to make a US account (have good reason) hence need a us IP address which has not been used, is VPS an ok idea?

Thanks

TOR uses proxies. Some VPNs can work. Others are blacklisted. So make sure to do some homework on VPNs. I dont use, so cant help there. But others here can help with VPNs

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I need a VPS because im planning to buy a few accounts. I made a post but didn't get any feedback on what VPS would be good.

Their must be more UK'ers on the forum that access US accounts. What VPS/VPS are you ppl using ?

TOR does not use proxy's, it is a community that shares internet connections. I use TOR but chose to not allow my connection to be used as an exit node as many perverts use TOR for their filthy s**t and if your connection was used you would have a hard time explaining it!
TOR does have to be set up very carefully though so that only certain exit nodes are used and not just random ones every time. Also you would have to set up the cookie storing as TOR general settings do not allow cookies and makes every connection look like a clean new connection which would cause issues with ebay and paypal.

I was just trying to simplify it, its the same principal. And using it with eBay and PayPal is a bad idea

Okay, final word on Tor. It routes internet connections through other users connections AND proxy servers. These users connections they are routing through in and of effect then makes them proxy server network sharing devices as other people are accessing the internet through that connection. The internet (Google, proxy blacklisters, IP address monitors, etc.) catch on very quickly whether a connection is being shared like a proxy and very quickly (as in days I have seen) blacklist the protocol as a "Network Sharing Device". It takes more investigation and longer before it is a "Confirmed Proxy Server", but regardless in the eyes of the internet you are accessing through a proxy nonetheless, how ever it originated. So the Tor network falls under the same umbrella as proxies, however picky you want to get about the definition of a proxy.

I always use it with ebay and paypal. I have seperate torrc files for all of my log-ins and they are each set to leave through seperate exit nodes.
I have only ever been suspended and limited due to the items I sell, never because of my IP and I run ebay and paypal accounts all over Europe with TOR.
Homework and preparation is a must but I find TOR a very useful tool for overseas accounts.
My Microsoft key sales on the other hand cause many issues!
I do agree with you partly on the bad idea, unless you know what you are doing with TOR it can cause many issues due to its secretive processes.

Sounds like your inventory would get even the eBay CEO suspended! I'm sure they suspend you on that basis before they get to you about the rest. Seriously, Tor or any kind of "Network Sharing Device" will not last long.

revskank 10-03-2010 12:48 PM

I have accounts that I sell good items on and they have been running for years with my exit nodes, with absolutely no problems. I am just saying that TOR should not be cast out as an option because if set up right it works just fine.
