| californiadreamer | 01-26-2008 08:00 AM | aol via broadband why doesn't my ip address ever change when signing in to aol via broadband connection?? I always sign off then resign on and it never ever changes??? |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-26-2008 11:00 AM | You have to actually access through an account which you can create for free and use for free. Used to be that was the only way you could get on. Now it seems that you can open and use the AOL browser without logging on and that will not give you a different IP. You know how to verify IP, so check it. Sometimes when going from account to account I might have to re-log unto AOL 3 or 4 times before it gives me a new IP address. Alos, I think it helps if you log into AOL with different user IDs to generate different IPs, but I can not verify that. |

Go into the modem settings and adjust your lease time down from 1 day to 11 seconds then unplug wait 30 seconds then plug it back in, you should now have a new ip address. Remember to put the lease time back to 1 day after you get the new one.
If your modem does not have user interface, use SMAC 2.0 program to spoof a new MAC address, reboot and that should get you a new ip.
There is also dos commands you can run to make the modem/router release the old ip address and get a new one. |
| thelizardking | 01-26-2008 12:21 PM | californiadreamer, what kind of connection are you using DSL or cable? do you have a router? |
| californiadreamer | 01-26-2008 12:55 PM | cable and a router. |
| ivegotinfo | 01-26-2008 08:52 PM | cable has static ips, you might have to call them to get a new one, or just unplug modem for like 10 minutes, then plug it in and see if it gets u a new ip. |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-26-2008 10:10 PM | I've read here many times before that unplugging the router will work for DSL but not cable, but that might vary amongst providers |
| ebayhateluv | 01-27-2008 03:57 AM | Dogboy-- Mr. Josh made a good post about changing up a cable modem...
It's in the members section:
Heres another post i found as well:
1) Open internet browser
2) type "192.168.1.1" without " " in navigation bar
3) leave user BLANK and type "admin" without " " as password
4) Look for MAC ADDRESS settings tab, if you cannot find it, try looking under advanced settings
5) Once located, enable MAC ADDRESS cloning if needed, then change the LAST TWO boxes using letters A-F then numbers 0-9. For example "A2" or "C3"
6) Click SAVE
7) Go to your MODEM and click/hold the RESET button on the back of it for a second or so.
8) Wait a minute or so and you should have fully functioning internet with a new public ip address.
IMPORTANT: If for some reason (this has never happened to me) your internet does not-reactivate, DO NOT PANIC. Just unplug your modem and router for a couple seconds, then replug them back in to reset them to factory defaults. |
| htown | 01-27-2008 10:47 AM | I have tried using AOL in different cities and they still give me the same IP when I sign in through broadband. I am guessing AOL gives certain computers a range of IP's cause I can only get 3 different IPs even in different cities. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-27-2008 02:30 PM | Htown:
Have you logged in under the different aol screen names? |

So ebhl, I think I tried that before. First of all you can't go to the MAC address change screen with all routers, modems, etc.. For my Toshiba cable modem I couldn't even find that screen to change settings. So they you can try a MAC changer program or something but as far as I remember after you try to change your MAC it won't let you get on.
When you sign up for cable internet (e.g. Suddenlink), they ask you for your cable modem's MAC & S/N over the phone. If you try to change it later on to get a new IP address it won't let you on, as far as Suddenlink is concerned it could be a non-customer trying to get on since they don't have this MAC unit number. Maybe it's only a Suddenlink thing but I don't see what provider would let you do that. |
| newtools | 08-20-2010 09:34 PM | just get a netgear or belkin router. easy to use.
Just to clarify, if use SMAC 2.0 to spoof the Mac address, and nic-id with a new oid
can you just comand prompt: Ipconfig
release
restart so you do not have to get up and powercycle ur modem?
Maybe SMAC and dial up is the way to go! | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:55 AM. | |
