IP change help

You have to forgive me but I do not know a lot about computers. I tried to do everything step by step from what the book said and didn't have any luck changing my ip.
Here's what I did. Looked at my ip, wrote it down. Then went to my router menu and changed the last two numbers on the wan mac. The router reset, then I reset the modem but after I did that the router wasn't picking up a signal off the modem. So I called Brighthouse and they reset the modem and it worked, no problem. But when I looked to see if the ip had changed, it did not. It is a dynamic ip and the router is a Belkin if that helps anyone give me some feedback on what to do. Feel free to dumb it up for me, like I said I don't know to much about computers. Thanks

Also when I checked the wan mac number it had completely changed from what I even changed it from but the ip on my computer was the same.

I am also having trouble with this.
I have Road Runner internet that is provided to me by BrightHouse Networks.
I tried changing the MAC address like the book says and resetting the modem, but the IP address stayed the same.
I did have someone tell me to unplug the modem for 24 hours and then plug it back in and that might change the IP. I am going to try that and see what happens.
I will let you know if I have any luck.

Try changing only the last 4 digits of the MAC address. Then unplug your router and cable modem. Then restart your computer or switch user accounts. Leave the router and cable modem off for at least 3-4 minutes. Make sure you have windows fired up and logged in then plug your devices back in. Give it a couple minutes to start up and then go to ipburger.com to see if your IP changed.

Exact steps I use... Good luck!

I thought you were supposed to change only the last two digits?

I always change the last 4 digits. The x's in the following example MAC 00 A0 D0 86 XX XX

First step is to log into your router. Google how to log into the specific model of your D-Link router. Usually you just use your web browser to go to 192.168.1.1 like it's a website. I've also seen (192.168.2.1), (192.168.0.1), and others... Typically the username is 'admin' and the password is blank, if I recall correctly...
