dail-up modem

Any advantage or dis-advantage to using dail-up modem. Do you still create different users for each dail-up?

I won't mind using it that way to i don't mess up and forget what ip address I logged on too

rsot 04-20-2011 06:14 PM

Big disadvantage is the speed. IP address changes a lot so that`s one `plus`.

bchrist430 04-20-2011 07:40 PM

not concern with speed. my concern is just having issues with ip address and logging on to correct one if I have like 4-5 stealth accts.

unkown5454 04-21-2011 02:19 AM

Extremely easy and cost effective. Go Go Go

rsot 04-21-2011 11:42 AM

I use it and it works well.

bchrist430 04-21-2011 01:46 PM

and are we sure everytime you use dail-up you have different ip address?

unkown5454 04-21-2011 02:36 PM

Yes, but always double check with ipburger.com, etc. Never assume anything of course. Be smart :)

bchrist430 04-30-2011 03:06 PM

Since my phone line is cable it seems to slow down the modem when i connect dail up. Is there anyway around that?

I'm about to add dial up to a new machine to sell on the river:typing:

Since we have an unlimited long distance plan within our state, I like it because i can set up stealth accounts in any town in my State almost without a problem. I believe with dial up they cannot track your mac address either.

then you just add a new user on to the computer.
I use the same name as is on my stealth account

Melissa1971 04-30-2011 07:16 PM

we have free dial up in many locations throughout our State

A large organization called fastfreedialup

I do most of my business on that acct later at night because internet is faster

Looking to go with Sprint since I have sprint service, going there tonight.

I read in forum that if I have a 3g/4g dongle it will give me a different ip address everytime I log on Wi-fi?

Imback2010 05-04-2011 02:34 PM

Yes!! 3g or 4g is the way to go if you can afford it! I'm with verizon and i get a new ip every time I investeted $75 for the first month and already made that back like 32 times.... Go for it if you hate dial up.....

unkown5454 05-04-2011 07:45 PM

Yes bchrist430, I run Sprint/Virgin Mobile dongles and all is well on this frontier. Great prices too.

catherinemcclanahan 05-05-2011 06:19 PM

I'm considering giving dial-up a try.

bchrist430 05-05-2011 07:38 PM

looked in Sprint they want $79 for USB and $50 month for you to signup for 1-2yr contract.
found out the virgin mobile "broadband to 2 go" which is on the Sprint network cost $79 and no contract. You buy minutes as you need, just like a phone. Still cost about $50 a month for unlimited acces and aleast your not locked in contract

Everyone is shooting for $50/unlimited now here in the US. AT&T and Verizon are still a joke, so I won't ever include them. They want $50/month for 1GB.

I still have $40/unlimited with Virgin, but they are constantly changing their plans around. Luckily, they are nice enough to reward older customers by allowing them to maintain their original plans, even though these are prepaid accounts. That's pretty nice of them.

T-Mobile is getting better. $50/month now for 3GB, which isn't horrible considering you can get some pretty fast speeds on their new 4G MiFi box that just released.

bchrist430 05-06-2011 07:33 PM

all set with virgin mobile. took about 10 minutes to set up. on-line with different IP address each time

unkown5454 05-07-2011 01:09 AM

^^^ The best! Congrats.

And if anyone else needs yet another MiFi box, Comcast just dropped a new 4G WiMAX one today in USA. Running a special where the box is free and you get unlimited data for $40/month. It is postpaid requiring a 12 month agreement, but nice to have more options as always.

Ok maybe Im slow but I think i have been looking for something like this instead of using the slow dial up connection. Can you tell me is this connection able to be used on the actual computer or just internet on your cell phone only? How does that work , do you plug the connection somehow to your computer? Thanks for any input.
