Internet access fails
 

i have passed the 3 month gap. i have been using 3 stealth accounts to sell.limited to 10 items a month. 1 account is doing well enough to get past its limits withing a few days. i did everythign stealth,. dial up, using 'false' info , the works!

now during the height of stealth selling, my dial up is no more!!!!!
i cant connect online to go on stealth so im screwed!!

i may go to a library or an internet cafe to do ebay stuff..but im not going on ebay with my regular connection

Is this a software issue? Or did your dial-up provider go out of business?

I suggest using something like Earthlink or Copper.net. The larger providers are much less likely to go out of business. And if they WERE going to wind down, they would probably give you some notice, like 30 or 60 days.

the provider is still in business. i even downloaded the software many times over.

its my actuall dial up. i rebboted the computer, i even installed a newetherlink card, but nothing,

all i get is static when i dial up...i dont heara dial tone, just the numbers 'dialing'

everything on my computer is running fine...i thought it could be the phone jack, but the land line is working fine.

Avoid ALL public hotspots like the plague.

Yep same thing happened to me the other night.I couldn't get a connection to Net Zero.It eventually started working late at night.Its was so frustrating because i wasted a bunch of hrs trying to connect.Then when i finally got connected it took over a hr just to confirm 4 orders.

really? why is that? chance to be linked?

that sucks! looks like my problems is that land line is down! i have digital phone and cable thats run via cable modem. i have no idea who to contact for the land line.

i got on 2 nights ago at 3 am, and that was the last time ever. i cant relist any items or do anything stealthy on ebay.

Public hotspots you should ideally avoid all together.

However they may not neccessarily 'link' you to any other accounts from using them but may increase the chances of them asking for documentation.

Ah, chevyman, that is awful. Have you spoken to the techincal people of your provider? At the leats they should be able to test the 'line' for you.

it does suck! lol.. trying to wait it out. i did try them via online chat. unfortunately my current provider is time warner cable and everything runs on a cable modem.
the land line jack isnt connected to any of it.

i will call them again tommorow and figure it out ad see what they say.

ok no going to hot spots. i called my provider and basically since i use their cable modem for internet and home phone, they are not connected to it and cant help me.

the isssue may be my building itself. the intercom isnt working and it is going to be repaired this week. i lost my dial up the same day as the intercom system went down.

i did some googling and found out some buildings use a landline for the intercom systems and thats my best guess for my dial up issues. i will ask my landlord when i see him.

does that make sense ?

Since you mention your intercom is broken, there is more than likely some copper wire damaged & that has ruined the ability of your land line to have a signal. Within your property everything probably checks OK, but outside your boundary, there is in fact no service.
Ask if there were techs in the building fiddling with anything or was there a storm about the time you lost your dial up? If there was a storm, the lightening could have zapper the service :typing:

makes the most sense. has to be the intercom. there wer no storms, but last weekend, 2 repairmen where fiddling with the intercom. they were trying to fix it but did not. a new sign on my building states that the intercom wont be fixed until the end of this week.

if thats the case..then the copper wires or whatevr they use must be down. im hoping when they fix the intercom, thing will go back to normal.

sadly they still NOT fixed my intercom system!!! i have not even my landlord to ask him!
i cant sell on ebay! im stuck! and the worst part is i dont even know if thats what causing my phone line to be down!

looks like my landlord is on vacation and no one has come to fix the intercom. again im not even sure if its whats causing my dial up to fail.

i thought of going to a local internet cafe list items, but that is to risky as pointed out.

i thought of masking my IP. Another dangerous move.

im stuck...

do you have some extra cash laying around? To buy a T-mobile dongle? it would be enough IP"S for your 3 accounts

i have a current cable modem, thats for regular internet.
i have dial up for stealth. its the dial up thats theissue.

yup. everyday. i check to see whats happening and nothing.

And you live in a building right? Hmm - 3 possible things: 1. problem with building connection (sometimes happens when one of the tenants/owners does reno - knocks out the phone line) 2. you did not pay the phone company and they killed your access 3. you have a phone somewhere that is off the hook.

I had this problem once in a condo where reno crossed lines and knocked out my DSL access (which ran through the phone line) for some time.

I def don't have 1 and 3 and no one in my building has renovated anything in the last 2 weeks
I checked and the intercom system hasn't been fixed and will be fixed on the 18th in 2 days

Upon some googling I have noticed that some building use the phone line with the intercom system

On another note I'm thinking of using my friends ipone to log on and set up a few auctiions
He doesn't use his ebay and it the most secure thing I can do

I don't dare use my phone cause I have an ebay account for buying and haslinks to suspended accounts imcluding adress and paypal info

im back in business!!! im not sure how, but all i know is that i dial up and i got back in today!
